About UNRA:
The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) was established by an Act of Parliament; The Uganda National Authority Act, No. 15 of 2006. UNRA became operational on 1st July 2008. The mandate of UNRA is to develop and maintain the national roads network, advise Government on general roads policy and contribute to addressing of transport concerns, among others.
Job Summary: The ICT Officer – Hardware and Networks will be responsible for planning, designing, supporting and maintaining the ICT network. The ICT Officer will also responsible for the installation and monitoring of the organisation’s ICT network and associated hardware. The Officer is also responsible for designing, testing and implementation of routine installation of ICT hardware including computers, network components and multi-functional devices.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage the operations of outsourced ICT network and hardware services;
Conduct systematic monitoring and scanning of the enterprise external environment to identify emerging technologies that have the potential to create business value;
Assess availability, performance and capacity of services and resources to ensure justifiable cost capacity and performance are available to support business needs and to deliver against agreed service level agreements;
Work closely with the strategy office and the directorates to determine future network requirements and produce network designs to meet the network availability, performance and security of UNRA;
Carry out operational procedures and tasks reliably and consistently to reduce the risk of un planned outages;
Perform network monitoring and analysis, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and escalate problems as necessary to maintain network performance to meets user demands;
Conduct control, evaluation and documentation of practices used to secure UNRA’s network;
Design and implement infrastructure solutions that adhere to current IT architecture and standards;
Ensure that installations are completed within time, cost and quality requirements so as to minimize operational and project risk;
Ensure that the testing and handover of implemented solutions are conducted as per organisational standards hence reducing the risk and adverse impact of change;
Quickly respond to audit reports and implement agreed recommendations within specified time frames;
Develop risk matrix and put in place risk mitigation measures in the network and hardware services at UNRA;
Participate in planning, budgeting and reporting in line with departmental guidelines and targets.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Manager Hardware and Networks
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant for the UNRA ICT Officer – Hardware and Networks should hold an Honors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Communication Technology or any other relevant courses from a recognized University.
IT Certifications i.e. CCNA, CCNP, A+, Network is an added advantage.
At least three years’ experience in the installation and maintenance of hardware and network services in a large organization.
Excellent interpersonal skills , particularly in staff/management relations,
oral and written communication skills;
Ability to work and produce accurate results in an environment with
multiple and challenging tasks;
Excellent analytical and problem solving techniques;
Excellent customer service;
High level of Integrity.
