Accounting Clerk – Kampala – Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa

About US:
Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) is a regional NGO established in 1995. SIHA works on issues of women development across the Horn of Africa Sub region and is governed by a Board of Directors from across the Greater Horn with interest in the development of women and girls in the Greater Horn of Africa.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Send open emailed invoices daily and date stamp
Manage SIHA petty cash and prepare and review petty cash receipts and books
Maintaining and manage SIHA accounts under the supervision of SIHA head of finance and to follow the guidance of SIHA financial policy
Regularly review invoices approved daily and scan into Capture system
Follow up on inaccurate invoices in a timely manner
Enters various data into appropriate database system to complete or update spreadsheet information
Responsible for the preparations of SIHA projects financial statements and reports for the SIHA head of finance and the regional director and SIHA program team
Provide a regular analyses of the SIHA expenses and bank statements
Maintains integrity of database accounting systems by regularly updating files, reports and spreadsheets. May include tenant, client, and vendor lists, purchase order account balances, time sheet data, billings or similar information
May prepare various spreadsheets, reports and data lists as assigned
May support others with account reconciliation functions
Quickly responds to tenant, vendor, and staff requests for account information
Performs other accounting clerical and administrative tasks which may include word processing, emails, preparing bank transactions, fund transfer checks,, handling the finance mail, etc
Assist on any additional projects assigned by Senior Accountant or Director

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant should hold a four-year college degree in Accounting is required or an equivalent
A minimum of one year of basic accounting or bookkeeping experience is desired
He or she should have a minimum of three years’ experience in the field, preferably with an NGO.
Working knowledge of accounting and finance rules and regulation and strong working knowledge of account payables, receivables, budgets, and expenditure control is essential.
Past experience with QUICKBOOKS or a similar accounting system is a plus.
Strong and proven professional integrity and work ethics is a must.
The ideal candidate must be computer literate, including knowledge of word processing (Word), mail merge, scheduling (Outlook), spreadsheets (Excel) and other data base applications
