The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is an international non-profit organization which is a partnership of infectious diseases and public health specialists. The overall objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems with strong emphasis on Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity Development. IDI has five operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory services (provided through a partnership with the Makerere University – John Hopkins University Core Lab) and Outreach.
Job Summary: The Accounts Assistant will support the Accountant in carrying out a variety of accounting activities related to the payments, compute, classify, records, and reconcile transactions into the financial systems. The Assistant checks the transactions to locate and resolve discrepancies. The incumbent applies working knowledge of the applicable laws and regulations of Uganda
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The jobholder records , classifies, and summarizes accounting transactions
Disburses payments in accordance with established procedures of the organization
Verifies the accuracy and authenticity of all accountabilities
Applies a working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations; verifies documents for completeness and compliance with government and private agencies
The jobholder also responds to inquiries, checks accounting transactions to locate and resolve discrepancies
Tasked with ensuring proper filing of documents for easy retrieval
Performing regular reconciliations
Perform any other duties as may be reasonably assigned
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate for the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) Accounts Assistant job placement should preferably hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or in Business Administration or Finance / Financial Management (majoring in Accounting)
At least level II of any Accounting professional course
Practical knowledge in any Accounting package preferably NAV MS Dynamics is an added advantage
At least two years’ work experience with a reputable busy organization preferably an NGO
Ability to work under minimum supervision
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Good problem solving and interpersonal skills
Good team player
Proficiency in the use of computers especially Excel Spreadsheets and Word processing
Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines
