Project Accountant – Danish Embassy – Kampala

Job Description
The Danish Embassy in Kampala seeks to recruit a project accountant for our work on Accountability, Civic Engagement and Rights. As our new colleague, you will work within the Grant Financial Management team.

Key responsibilities:
• Bookkeeping expenses and income, in particular relating to Danida development programmes.
• Support with solid grant management of development funds. This entails financial control of funds, preparing status notes on spending by partners, and reconcile data from audit reports with fund transfers
Assist in monitoring Danida programme disbursements against budgets and commitments
• Enter data in Danida-specific grant management system to keep track on funds committed, funds transferred and funds spent.
• Contact to local auditors
• Carry out regular visits to partners and conduct financial monitoring using specific Embassy formats.
• Procurement of supplies for the Embassy
• Processing of approved bills and invoices for payment, including bank transfers for partners
• Bank, cash and general ledger account reconciliations
Ensure timely compliance with relevant statutory regulations incl. those of the URA
• Ensure proper filing of all accounting records and documentation
• Preparing VAT and Duty-Free tax claims
• Monitoring and processing payments for utilities
• Other relevant duties as may be assigned from time to time

Qualifications & Experience:
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Commerce
• A professional qualification in Accountancy – ACCA or CPA
A minimum of 2 years post-qualification working experience in Accounts – preferably working with an International Development Organisation

Knowledge and skills:
• Experience using the Accounting System ‘Navision’ would be an advantage
• Excellent communication skills – both written and oral
• A broad knowledge and interest in the area of development assistance and aid effectiveness
• A high degree of accuracy
• Strong analytical skills
• A good understanding of the Ugandan tax laws and how they apply to diplomatic missions and development partners
• Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines
• Ability to independently carry out the full range of accounting tasks – with minimum support and supervision
• Ability to work efficiently in a team-based, multi-cultural environment
• Knowledge of Danish will be considered a special advantage
