Uganda National Meteorological Authority (formerly Department of Meteorology) under Ministry of Water and Environment is a semi-autonomous government authority for weather and climate services (UNMA Act. 2012) and a focal institution to Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), an international body mandated to carryout scientific research on climate change.
Job Summary: The Senior Accountant will support the Manager Finance in providing routine financial management and accounting support.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintains main and subsidiary accounts of the Authority
Intuitively verifies financial documents and payments
Maintains accounting ledgers for budgeting control
Support management in the preparation of estimates for expenditure
Plans and monitors work schedules
Support management in the preparation of periodic financial statements and reconciliation
The incumbent prepares final accounts of the Authority
Mentors, coaches and supervises subordinates
Perform any other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicants should preferably hold an Honors Bachelor’s degree in Finance/or Accounting plus professional qualification in accountancy obtained from a recognized awarding Institution/body accredited by ICPAU OR Full professional qualification in accountancy plus at least a postgraduate diploma in management related field.
A minimum of three or more years’ experience as an Accountant in Government or an equivalent level of accounting work experience from a reputable organization
