Job Summary: The UNICEF Senior Finance Assistant will acts as a principal assistant with responsibility for accounts maintenance and budget control functions of the office.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure timely maintenance of ledgers and accounting records to ensure correct classification and recording of financial transactions;
Regularly review payment requests to ensure their completeness, accuracy and existence, and posting of payment requests/invoices in the system
Calculation and payment of salaries, allowances, travel claims and other payments to staff members, experts and consultants, vendors and other claimants;
Maintenance of cash books, including control of disbursements and balancing of books and ledgers;
Perform monthly reconciliation for Accounts Payable and other accounts, and clear the outstanding item in the system
Supports programme officers in all aspects of accounts maintenance and budget control by providing reports on financial status, procedures, exchange rates, costs and expenditures, and potential funding problems.
Act as a backstop when the Finance Officer is not available.
Assist in the mid-year and year end closure of accounts, and ensure all open items are cleared before the deadline, as well as submitting reports to HQ within the deadline set
Actively participate in financial spot checks and training of Implementing Partners.
Responsible for monitoring the status of VAT claims and refund from URA in the system, and assist in clearing of VAT refund in the system
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate for the United Nations UNICEF job Opportunity should have completed secondary education and supplemented it with a diploma in accounting and finance and/or professional qualification.
A minimum of seven years’ experience, including progressively responsible work in finance and accounting activities.
Ability to operate a computer or training in accounting and/or finance is desirable.
Possess excellent analytical and accounting skills.
Aptitude for figures and accuracy.
Good working knowledge of computer management and applications.
Possess the ability to work in international and multicultural environment.
