Job Summary:
The Assistant Geographical Information Systems Officer will support the development of the engineering designs and shall maintain a real-time updated database of the project assets.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the review of engineering designs of proposed power line routes.
Assist in keeping track of the project scope in terms of materials and equipment on the network, as well as keeping an updated geodatabase of the network as work progresses.
GIS support for field teams; including creating a comprehensive database for data collected from the field, processing of data and providing relevant inputs, such as georeferenced coordinates and thematic maps, as needed.
Record data related to wayleaves, such as coordinates of equipment in wayleaves and any other relevant information to enable easy tracking and informed decision-making on any issues that may arise later on.
Reviewing other REA grid expansion projects and creating a working backbone for the Sub-counties project. This will to take into consideration the existing networks, and other planned REA projects as well as those under construction/implementation.
Assist in identifying and keeping a detailed inventory/ database of potential last mile connections that will assist in determining and categorizing which consumers to provide meters.
Carryout verification of survey drawings, imagery and all survey reports submitted by surveyors, contractors and service providers for all power lines built under this project.
Assist in Monitoring of status of poles, materials & equipment during the defects liability period (DLP)
Work with REA’s GIS unit to maintain an updated electrification network asset register in the main GIS database
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Land Surveying/Geomatics, or Quantity Surveying.
ESRI certificates required as a minimum; ArcGIS 2: Image Analysis with ArcGIS.
At least two (2) years’ experience in design, implementation and data conversions, coordinate systems, online data collection working with ESRI applications in the electricity/energy sector.
