Clerk of Works – SteadFin Uganda SACCO Ltd – Kampala

Job Summary:
The Clerk of Works will assess works undertaken, monitor and inspect construction work, record progress, carry out handover procedures, and ensure compliance with contract documents, construction regulations and best practice.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise all civil works including deep excavations, setting out and builders works ensuring that the approved method statements and directives from the consultants and KCCA are followed.
To report any variations in both the Civil, Electrical and Mechanical works in detail stating the BOQ specifications and what is being supplied.
To liaise between the team of consultants including the Architects, Structural Engineers,
Mechanical/Electrical Engineers, Land Surveyors and the Contractor to ensure that no changes or alterations are made to the design without approval.
To provide SteadFin with a daily report of all civil works executed on site and all issues arising from the day’s works, following up approval of samples and issuing approved verified instructions.
To review all payment certificates to ensure that the quantities match to the values claimed by the contractor/sub-contractors highlighting any discrepancies and over payments.
To ensure that works are executed in compliance with the relevant building and employment laws/ regulations.
Ensure materials delivered are as per specifications and tests are carried out according to the BS standards and regulations as per the consultants recommendations.
To proactively manage health, safety d environmental (HSE) aspects and to engage contractor to ensure compliance with the set HSE standards.
Act as Secretary to construction site meetings.
To build a good relationship with the construction team, and be dedicated to getting things done right-first-time, saving time and money.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant must hold a Degree in Civil Engineering or construction management or Higher Diploma in Building and Civil Engineering from a recognized academic institution with at least 5 years work experience
Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical works.
Must have worked on a multi-storey structure of at least 3 – levels worth at UGX 500M and should be conversant with HSE & EMMP standards
Computer skills especially AutoCAD, MS Word, MS Excel and MS Project.
A high sense of ethics and integrity.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Strong analytical decision-making skills
Self-development, initiative-taking
Fluency in written and spoken English
