Driver and Logistics Assistant – Kampala – Impact Water

We sell high-performing water purification systems to social institutions (like schools, hospitals and health clinics) as well as private businesses, often with zero-interest financing so that providing safe, great tasting drinking water to students, patients and employees is easier than ever.

Job Summary: The Driver and Logistics Associate provides excellent driving skills and supports the Technical Team with the various tasks involved in installing water filtration systems.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Transportation/Driving:
Transport staff and other personnel to and from various destinations, including multiple day trips outside of the Central Region as needed
Update and maintain a log book for all tasks /trips, fueling and maintenance
Ensure vehicles are in sound mechanical condition ready for program activities, including conducting daily checks, following services schedules and confirming that maintenance is completed as needed
Ensure the vehicles are clean, safe and secure at all times
Ensure vehicles are equipped with a fire extinguisher, toolkit, basic spare parts, torch, medical kit etc., at all times and that all of these items are in good working order
Plan routes and submit requests for funding to the Office Manager as needed for trips outside of the Central Region
Follow all Company regulations in regards to fuel purchasing and record keeping to safeguard against improper fuel usage or theft
Fulfill other duties such as picking up and delivering items and running errands as needed
Coordinate with external service providers for all vehicle maintenance and verify work is complete upon return of the vehicle from servicing
Accompany external service provides to procure parts for the vehicle, certifying that the parts are of high quality and purchased at a reasonable market price

2. Logistical Support: Support the technical team in the installation of water filtration systems. This may include tasks such as:
Carrying products
Support in plumbing work, including running pipes, digging holes/trenches, and connecting piping
Assist in basic electrical work, including hanging cables and placing electrical boxes
Assist in basic carpentry skills, including drilling holes and mounting water filtration systems
Cleaning of tanks and other components
Painting systems and applying stickers and other branding material
Delivery of Impact Water products to partners, distributors, and other destinations as needed, including the loading and unloading of products for drop-off and/or pick-up
Ensuring proper documentation is completed, including obtaining signatures and acknowledging product receipt, for all pick-up and drop-offs
Arrange for rental of passenger vehicles for personnel movement and trucks for product distribution as needed, including assessment of driver ability and safety
3. General Support and Office Assistance:
Assist with general office maintenance as instructed by the Office Manager; responsibilities could include basic cleaning and facility maintenance and other tasks as needed
Support Office Assistant with product assembly and other tasks as needed

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate should hold a valid and clean Ugandan class B driver’s license; DL or CL high preferred
At least three to five years’ experience as a professional driver, preferably with an international organization
Strong knowledge of the rules and regulations involved in the safe and efficient operation of vehicles in Uganda
The ideal candidates will have extensive driving experience, strong communication and time management skills and the willingness to be an active team player that embraces responsibility beyond that required of a traditional driver.
Working knowledge of basic automotive maintenance procedures
Good standard of written and spoken English and Luganda with the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in both languages
Well organized and able to develop and follow an operational schedule
A good team worker, hardworking, dedicated, and courteous
Highly experienced in the operation of four wheel drive vehicles, including double cab pickup trucks, vans, and commercial vans
Past experience working with international businesses/NGOs or plumbing/electrical skills is and added advantage
