Medical Advisor – German Leprosy and TB Relief Association Uganda – Kampala

Job Description
The main purpose of the job is to manage and/or coordinate the implementation of GLRA Project in Uganda, which mainly focuses on the prevention and control of Leprosy, TB & NTDs and research. She/he will report to GLRA Uganda head of program by working in collaboration with GLRA Uganda Staffs and different partners. The post holder will play a great role in leading and implementing DAHW medical strategy and policy in GLRA Uganda program

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Plan, organize, coordinate and lead the overall medical activities of GLRA Uganda
• Responsible for definition, development and implementation of DAHW medical-social policy at country/ project level
• Responsible for development of country strategy for DAHW medical activities
• Ensure technical state-of-the-art support to partner projects
• Responsible for facilitation of sustainability and quality of National TBL Program/Projects Pro-actively seek for co-funding opportunities, new alliances, strategies, networking and partnerships in close co-operation with Head of program and GLRA East Africa and HQ medical advisor
• Develop highest quality proposal for funding of medical project
• implementation, monitoring and evaluation of their activities (through progress reports and regular visits)
• Analyze and report on challenges, problems and gaps encountered in these fields with recommendations for solutions

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE Essential
• Provide necessary support for sustainability and quality of Projects
• Work in collaboration with the National Programs of Uganda and others relevant stakeholders
• Work closely with DAHW EARO and DAHW HQ MSP department for technical issues
• Stay updated on all technical issues in the fields of leprosy, Tuberculosis, TB/HIV and others NTDs in so far as they concern activities in the country Stay updated on national health and DAHW policies
• Support and advise projects and national programmes on these issues and on activities according to state-of-the-art practice
• Assist Head of Program with validation of projects Contribute/participate in relevant training activities for health personnel
• Assist and advise all supported projects in planning,
• Medical Doctor + Master degree in Public Health is more advantageous
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in medical project management and coordination
• Good knowledge and experience in TB,TB/HIV, Leprosy and other NTD program management TOT or basic training on comprehensive national TB,TB/HIV and leprosy is advantageous
• Previous work experience in National, Regional and/or International Non-governmental
• organizations is advantageous
• Experience in coordinating medical or implementing research project
• Experience in proposal writing for co-funding
• Good experience in networking and team work
• Planning and monitoring skills, ability to facilitate
• trainings, review meeting, supportive supervision
• Basic computer literacy required
• Good English writing and speaking
• Ability to work as a member of a multicultural team.
