The World Food Programme (WFP) is the United Nations frontline agency against world hunger. It is the largest and longest serving humanitarian agency in Uganda. Currently WFP focuses on three priority areas namely: Emergency Humanitarian Action (EHA); Food & Nutrition Security (FNS); and Agriculture & Market Support (AMS). Job Summary: The Programme Assistant – Assessment, Monitoring & Evaluation (AME) will manage the UN WFP data collection, analysis and reporting within the AME unit
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage all mobile data collection, analysis and reporting (Mobile Vulnerability Assessment & Mapping – mVAM) related tasks within the Unit;
Maintain a functional mVAM database;
Work closely with the ICT Unit ensure that the mVAM database is running on a safe, secure and robust platform and the backup of the database is done regularly and an appropriate disaster recovery mechanism is in place;
Support data entry into WFP corporate system for monitoring and reporting;
Establish an effective system to follow-up Mobile Data Service Provider and ensure that quality data on key food security indicators is collected;
Oversee entry into of complete, timely and accurate price data by Sub Offices (SOs) ensuring that the sub-offices continue updating the data on a weekly basis;
The incumbent will visit WFP databases on a weekly basis to ensure that the data is available; check the data for consistency and provide feedback to SOs on any issues of concern;
Actively participate in the annual food security and nutrition assessments in Karamoja region and refugee hosting areas in the different stages including planning, training, data collection, report writing and dissemination;
Produce monthly price updates for Karamoja region;
Keep in touch with AME team to ensure that all the necessary support with regard to food security assessments and monitoring as well as assessments is provided:
Organise trainings, as needed, for country office, sub-office and partner staff;
Perform any other additional tasks assigned by the Programme Officer – Assessment Monitoring & Evaluation (AME) or Head of the Unit;
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicants for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Programme Assistant – Assessment, Monitoring & Evaluation (AME) opportunity should hold a University degree in Statistics, Agricultural Economics, Social Sciences, Development Economics or any other related field attained from a recognized institution;
A minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience, with at least two years in food security analysis, monitoring and database management related functions.
A strong statistical background;
Demonstrated ability to work work in a team and under minimum supervision;
Strong English written and oral communication skills;
Strong computer skills and knowledge and experience in using quantitative analysis techniques, interpretation ad software, including SPSS and Stata;
Good working knowledge and experience using MS Office applications.
