Job Summary: The Senior ICT Assistant (Network and Applications) provides support for Management Information Systems, Business Applications, Messaging and software support including building staff skills through training in support of the UNICEF Uganda country progamme. The incumbent will render support with all ICT systems operational maintenance and Administration of Business Applications to ensure business continuity and disaster recovery. The incumbent will be in charge of the overall ICT/Communications function of the UNICEF Office, including user and Help Desk support and maintenance of open source applications/systems for T4D.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Render support in implementing corporate Application under the guidance of the ICT Manager and within the framework of the corporate ICT plan for the country office, including:
Assist in implementing Global rollouts, upgrading corporate applications and network operating.
Offer technical support to all users in using the corporate application and escalate any issue to the Global help Desk.
Support Sub-offices resolving any issue to access VISION or other corporate application.
Render support in organizing the user training for new systems and applications
2. Assist in managing the office network and ICT resources which includes :
Keenly monitor and analyses network statistics, applications logs and firewall logs.
Enhance network availability and service levels by establishing routine maintenance procedures, heightening security and user access rights.
Carry out the routine monitoring of the WAN link in Country office and zone offices to ensure its continuity.
Conduct routine maintenance procedures for all severs under the guidance of ICT Manager
Provide technical support in implementing new operating system upgrades and replacing computer hardware
Maintain data backup in a manner that allows easy retrieval /restore and complies with UNICEF standards and perform regular maintenance on systems to keep them running in good condition.
In charge of the maintenance and administration of T4D servers and applications
3. Provide user support and assist in providing training in the areas of information technology and business applications which includes:
Provide support in organizing orientation and refresher sessions to enhance the knowledge of Users in using the ICT systems more effectively and efficiently.
Provide technical support and guidance to the users for using online shared storage (Teams site and OneDrive) and network shared storage.
Assist in trouble shooting to resolve ICT service calls assigned to Kampala helpdesk.
Provide support in conducting induction for new staff on internal ICT Policy, procedures and using the ICT resources.
4. Provide support in maintaining ICT disaster Recovery Plan and data backup which includes:
Assist in supporting the implementation of routine ICT disaster recovery procedures including daily backup.
Documenting network processes, procedures, software, tools and issues. Classifies and maintains the network documentation.
Providing support in updating Business continuity Plan (BCP) and ICT Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) and help in conducting simulation.
In charge of implementing routine ICT disaster recovery procedures including daily backup.
5. Provide support in enhancing the knowledge management to meet the office’s information needs which including managing the network shared drive, and online One drive for Business.
Performs any other duties, as required by the UNICEF ICT Manager.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate for the United Nations UNICEF Senior ICT Assistant (Network and Applications) career opportunity should have completed secondary education, preferably supplemented by technical diploma or university degree in the field of IT with specialized training in Network Administration, Software applications, data and telecommunications. Microsoft Certification is an advantage.
At least seven years progressive work experience in information management with Network, System Administration, Software development, Data and Telecom solutions at national levels. Hands-on experience in setting the Webserver, managing Windows and Ubuntu Network server will be an asset.
Must be up-to-date of current issues and trends in information resources management. Must have good training skills.
Fluency in English is required.
