Senior Project Assistant SSCoS – Kampala – International Organization for Migration

About Us:
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is the leading international intergovernmental organization dealing with migration. IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and internally displaced people.

About SSCoS Project:
IOM is implementing the project “Strengthening Social cohesion and community stabilization in slum populations”. The project aims to address the root causes of inter communal conflict in slum populations by addressing sources of grievances and by strengthening community cohesion around shared development assets. The project will provide employment opportunities and basic local services, as well as preventing conflict in marginalized communities in urban slums of Uganda.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· The jobholder will coordinate and monitor the planning and implementation of project activities to ensure work is proceeding according to established plans, including analysing implementation difficulties and initiating remedial action
· Guide, supervise and monitor the work of the project assistant and administrative assistant
· Regularly monitor and oversee the work of the implementing partner;
· Keenly review annual work plans and periodic narrative reports submitted by the implementing partner;
· Coordinate with finance/ administration team and with the implementing partner to ensure timely implementation of project activities;
· Work closely with Admin/Finance Department to track expenditures and ensure they fall within the confines of related budget lines.
· Draft and prepare project reports as well as prepare interim and final donor reports.
· Work closely with and continuously develop relationships with relevant stakeholders including Government and other partner agencies on matters relevant to the project;
· Plan and organize working meetings, capacity building activities and other activities as needed;
· Represent IOM, when and as needed, in meetings/ functions with relevant stakeholders;
· Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· The ideal candidate for the International Organization for Migration IOM Senior Project Assistant SSCoS career opportunity should hold a High School Degree/ Certificate with seven years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree with five years of relevant experience in International Relations, Social Sciences, Human Rights, Development Studies or related field
· A minimum of seven years (five years for Bachelor’s degree or higher) of relevant professional experience in the public sector or working with NGOs;
· Significant experience working with and providing support to implementing partner(s);
· Experience working with government agencies in Uganda;
· Previous exposure and experience working with youth;
· Excellent organizational, communication and report writing skills;
· Good understanding of socio-economic issues in Uganda;
· Keen interest in migration issues in Uganda and worldwide;
· Demonstrable ability to take initiative, work in a team and work with minimal supervision.
· Languages: English (fluent). Working knowledge of other UN languages is an added advantage
