Uganda Coffee Development Authority was established as a public Authority, and its mandate is to promote and oversee the coffee industry by supporting research, promoting production, controlling coffee quality, and improving the marketing of coffee in order to optimize foreign exchange earnings for the country and payments to the farmers.

Job Summary: The Application Database Administrator will be responsible for the administration of databases. This will include maintenance, security administration, performance monitoring and tuning, backup and recovery of databases to ensure availability, integrity, confidentiality and security of information. The ADA shall support operation and database-related assistance to end users and application developers; and support existing infrastructure and applications at UCDA.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Offer timely technical support and guidance for the MIS and all applications using databases, and make appropriate recommendations to ensure high availability.
The incumbent will manage Server databases of mission-critical systems, and ensure maximum database availability, performance and security by utilizing best industry practices.
Regularly monitor database performance, tune and reorganize databases to enforce standards and procedures.
Respond to database operational emergencies as required, including database recoveries, with no loss of data.
Independently analyze, solve and correct user issues in real time, providing end to end resolution.
Keenly analyze and resolve user issues in a timely manner, and document and escalate unresolved problems to the relevant service providers.
Ensure customer satisfaction through meeting established service level standards.
Recommend and draft or participate in the drafting of information technology and user support policies and procedures for the Department.
The incumbent will also acquire and maintain knowledge of relevant products and support methods to provide technically accurate solution.
Take part in the development of work plans and objectives for the Unit; recommend, implement, and administer methods and procedures to enhance operations, as appropriate to the Department;
Perform any other duties as assigned by Management.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate should hold an Honors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Information Systems from a recognized University / Institution.
Professional Certifications in MYSQL, Microsoft SQL and Oracle shall be an added advantage.
A minimum of three years’ experience in: administering Windows production environments and Server Database Administration; query optimization and database performance tuning; exposure to and understanding of application logic; and documenting new and existing processes as well as updating existing documentation when changes are needed
Highly organized, able to keep track of an environment with many different workflows across heterogeneous environments;
Be detail oriented: able to identify relevant information out of a broad expanse of available documentation and logging;
Highly knowledgeable: Familiar with a broad set of IT concepts (Networking, Windows, Linux, among others);
Possess good time management skills and ability to work on multiple tasks towards meeting tight deadlines;
Excellent analytical and logical problem solving skills;
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to grow professionally in a highly flexible and fast growing environment;
