Data Analyst – United Nations Volunteers (UNV) – Kampala

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The Data Analyst will support the Strategy and Policy as well as the ERRS Unit to implement its mandate by engaging in the following will undertake the following tasks:
· Support Refugee Response sector coordination and work (environment and livelihood), including through the attendance of sector coordination meeting, provision of guidance and communication with sector partners, review and strengthening of relevant information management systems and data collection/mapping tools, but also data analysis and production of various report, maps, communication products brief and analytical materials (20 % of the work).
· Strengthen national and local capacities on refugee and host community data collection and trend analysis, including through the review/analysis of existing data sets, the production of various analysis and analytical documents, the development of relevant tools and processes, and the provision of advice and guidance’s to national and local counterparts and implementing partners (15 % of the work).
· Strengthen the use of evidence based analysis within UNDP ERRS intervention (design, targeting, implementation, monitoring and evaluation) by reviewing existing approaches, linking/streamlining targeting and monitoring tools with government systems and indicators, creating relevant project database, undertaking intervention impact evaluation, establishing relevant monitoring and/or information management systems/tools and producing report, brief and analytical materials (15% of the work)
· Support the collection of data and information for analysing human development trends in the country;
· Undertake quantitative and qualitative analysis on various development issue including but not limited to poverty, , inequality, vulnerability and refugee management using household survey and administrative data.
· Assess the feasibility of constructing national and provincial panel data to provide in-depth insights on dynamics of poverty, vulnerability and inequality within the framework of leave no one behind principle. The analysis will make use of Demographic and Health Survey (DHS), the Community level Database (CDB), Household surveys, and other relevant surveys/databases.
· Prepare background paper with a proposal that will enable the construction of a national and provincial panel data to calculate a national human development index for Uganda that can feed to the next National Human development report.
· Using household level data on Refugees by government, UN agencies prepare an in-depth analysis on possibilities for diversifying livelihood options for the 12 districts of Uganda; support the updating of the cost of hosting refugees in Uganda and other relevant analysis to inform UNDP/UN programmes.
· Provide support in data analysis feeding into SDG reporting in Uganda at various levels;
· Assist in the preparation of reports, policy background notes, policy briefs, infographics and presentations as may be required for various audiences; and
· Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time;
· Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:- Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day)- Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country- Provide annual and end of assignment reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities using UNV’s Volunteer Reporting Application- Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.- Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers- Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Key Results/Expected Outputs
· HH socio-economic survey completed.
· Development data collected and analysed for reports, briefs and presentations
· Development data collected and analysed for monitoring and evaluation purposes.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· The ideal candidate for the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Data Analyst job must hold a Master’s degree in development economics, public policy, sustainable development, international development or a closely related field.
· A minimum of five years’ experience working on development issues.
· Other development programme/project experience
· Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages, including advanced software programmes for statistical analysis and mapping of data.
· Ability to conduct research studies.
· Language Skills English (Mandatory)
