The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is an international non-profit organization which is a partnership of infectious diseases and public health specialists. The overall objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems with strong emphasis on Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity Development. IDI has five operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory services (provided through a partnership with the Makerere University – John Hopkins University Core Lab) and Outreach.
About CDC Project:
The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) has received funding from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to implement a 5 year project “Global Health Security Partner Engagement: Expanding Efforts and Strategies to Protect and Improve Public Health Globally.” CDC under Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) seeks to accelerate progress toward a world safe and secure from infectious disease threats and to promote global health security as an international security priority in three key areas:
· Preventing and reducing the likelihood of outbreaks —natural, accidental, or intentional.
· Detecting threats early saves lives.
· Rapid, effective response requires multi-sectoral, international coordination and communication.
Job Summary: The Data Officer will support the collection and entry of project related data and provide timely data to support project report writing. The incumbent will also provide support to the project site focal persons in entry, cleaning and analysis of data captured by the Project MIS (electronic and paper-based).
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· The incumbent supports facilities and the project in timely compilation of pharmacy, laboratory, epidemic outbreak & response and infection control reports,
· Ensuring completeness, consistency and accuracy of data captured in the HMIS tools
· Support health facility staff Produce data summaries for display on noticeboards (showing progress in the different technical areas
· Render support and mentor health facility staff and volunteers in documentation/ extraction of especially pharmacy, laboratory, epidemic outbreak & response and infection control data
· Take part in the analysis and interpretation of data
· Ensure filing of all laboratory test results and other records in the appropriate files
· Ensuring availability of required HMIS tools i.e. registers, forms, guidelines etc.
· Provide supplies forecast to avoid stock outs of HMIS tools
· The Data Officer will also support and mentor health facility staff and volunteers in management of collected data
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· The Data Officer should preferably hold a Degree in any data management related field.
· A minimum of two years progressive experience in data management and systems development, especially in health sector.
· Previous experience analysis and reporting/ presentation of data for both research and capacity programme decision-making
· Good report writing and presentation skills
· Computer literacy skills i.e. proficiency in Microsoft Word, Power point, spreadsheets, and database systems
