Development Intern – Grassroots Reconciliation Group

About GRG:
The Grassroots Reconciliation Group (GRG) is a U.S. founded non-profit organization that runs innovative peacebuilding and livelihood projects for the reintegration of former combatants of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and child soldiers. We are looking for a proven project manager with field experience and visionary ideas and who can take the lead in growing the organization. GRG projects bring together former combatants and local community members to plan their own paths to reintegration and reconciliation. This involves a broad range of locally designed interventions, including livelihoods, agriculture, microfinance, trauma counseling and support, community theater, and peacebuilding activities.

Job Summary: The Development Intern will actively contribute to monitoring and impact evaluation, grant writing, and research. The internship will provide significant professional development to young professionals and/or higher degree students seeking to gain experience in the development/post-conflict sector. This Internship is mainly aimed at graduate students and/or professionals with a background in conflict resolution, peace studies or international development.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Carrying out research on fundraising prospects and new areas of operation;
· Tasked with drafting grant proposals for foundation and other donor grants;
· Providing support in gathering data on monitoring and evaluation of projects;
· Tasked with designing baseline methodologies for new projects and writing evaluation reports;
· Supporting GRG’s communication strategy through documentation, website/blog updates, newsletters and engagement of different stakeholders;
· Guiding emerging programming opportunities as they emerge;
· Act as the focal point for the Management Information System;
· If a candidate has particular skills (agriculture, psychology, microfinance etc.), GRG would be very happy to develop a placement making maximum use of these skills and interests;

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· This Internship is mainly aimed at graduate students and/or professionals with a background in conflict resolution, peace studies or international development.
· The applicant must hold a Degree in international development, peace studies, conflict studies or a related field.
· Previous volunteer experience in developing or post-conflict context.
· Extensive knowledge of sustainable development and conflict resolution.
· Good cross-cultural communication skills.
· Good writing and research skills.
· Skills and experience in grant writing.
· Web design/update and multi-media skills a plus, including blogging and social marketing.
· Knowledge of northern Uganda a plus.

NB: The internship is unpaid (interns will be expected to cover their own flight and living costs) but provides excellent field experience at a peace-building NGO in a post-conflict setting in Africa. The Program Director will provide close mentoring and professional development support.
