Information Officer / Archivist – Kampala – Uganda Bureau of Statistics

About US:
The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) is a semi-autonomous body established by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics Act, 1998, to promote the production of reliable official statistics and ensure the development and maintenance of the National Statistical System (NSS). The mandate of the Bureau is the production, coordination and dissemination of official statistics.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be tasked to assemble, catalogue, preserve and manage valuable collections of historical information;
In charge of the development as well as implementation of the Information and Archives Strategy and policies in line with the Communication Policy and Strategy;
Evaluate, select, retrieve and arrange archive materials;
Store and preserve perishable documents;
Ensure that the archives accessible to a wide range of users;
In charge of the development and maintenance an archives database of all UBOS information and information related materials, including Questionnaires, Training Manuals and Reports;
Establish and maintain a multi-media archive system for all UBOS Information Records and Documentation;
Develop and implement a programme for the regular display and exhibition of UBOS archive products;
Quickly respond to archival requests;
Negotiate the acquisition of new archival collections;
Mentor and supervise subordinate staff;
Actively participate in other UBOS projects and programmes as may be required from time to time;
Actively promote the significance and increase staff and public awareness of the archives; and
Perform any other related programmes as may be required from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The Information Officer / Archivist should hold a Bachelor’s degree with honours in Records and Archives Management or Library and Information Science
A minimum of three years’ experience in the operation of Archives Services, Library Services or Information Management with interest in statistical issues.
Computer literacy skills a requirement
