About PREEP Programme:
The Promotion of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency programme (PREEEP) is a programme implemented on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economic cooperation and Development (BMZ) that supports the Ugandan Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development in the areas of energy policy, rural electrification, improvement of market structures in the energy sector and energy efficiency. The overall objective of the programme is to ensure that the framework conditions for the sustainable supply of energy to enterprises and households in Uganda are improved.

Job Summary: The Information Technologies Specialist is responsible for the maintenance of information technology and management systems for the GIZ- PREEEP. The jobholder will also be tasked with regular updating of computer software and programs for the GIZ- PREEEP components in line with guidelines from head office. The incumbent will provide technical support to GIZ-PREEEP team members and database management.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Hardware-related Tasks:
Ensure that all hardware is up-to-date with standards set by GIZ head office, including laptops, servers, and all desktop computers
Maintains PC, notebook, printer, digital camera, scanner and other hardware components
The incumbent consults with the PREEEP Programme Coordinator with regard to new or improvement of certain systems and networks; tests new hardware and does recommendations for the purchase of new systems, including the upgrading of existing systems and all relevant items pertaining to network and PCs
Software-related Tasks:
Supports all software packages used at the GIZ (e.g. APS, AMS, MS Office, WinPACCS,
SAP)
The incumbent also tests new or upgraded software systems and updates all software to the latest versions
Establishes/Maintains proper back-up systems and ensures system security both in the GIZ PREEEP office as well as the district offices where applicable.
Ensures that the anti-virus software is updated periodically both in the GIZ PREEEP office as well as the district offices where applicable.
Website-related Tasks:
Maintains and updates existing website
Coordinates regularly with the Web Editor and the projects/program leaders on necessary adjustments to the homepage

Operational Support:
Installs/manages and maintains a local area network (LAN)
Confers with vendors to guarantee maintenance of network, PABX and computer equipment
Maintains market research on quality and economical prices and advises on the procurement of computer equipment

General Services:
Installs, manages, and maintains the general administration of the entire system
Backs-up data and takes care of Anti- Hacking issues
Handles troubleshooting and solving of all computer and internet related problems, prepares information needed, and maintains telephonic support
Ensures an emergency deputy service
Keeps an inventory of hard and software and updates list as soon as changes occur
Documents the installation and settings on the server and on each computer
Other Duties:
Assists in and/or carries out other project activities and other tasks, as assigned
Undertakes further job training related to his/her position and duties, if required.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant for the GIZ Information Technologies Specialist employment opportunity must hold a University degree in Information Technology or Computer Science
A minimum of three years of professional working experience in a similar position
Broad knowledge and understanding of IT hardware systems, current operation software, IT Network systems, data bank management software, GIZ -Intranet and basic understanding of specific GIZ software (SAP, APS, AMS, PACCS, etc.)
Excellent English spoken and written and Local Language skills
