Wellspring Advisors Information-Technology Kampala IT Support Consultant
The Kampala IT support consultant reports to Wellspring’s Country Manager and IT Manager. The consultant will make recommendations and follow through with implementation on a variety of IT infrastructure matters including but not limited to hardware and network configuration, end user support, cloud-implementation projects, and staff training. The Consultant will participate in bi-weekly meetings with the IT manager, learn about new technologies and report back on recommended solutions for local staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
• University degree in information systems and/or formal technical training and certification,
• Minimum three years’ experience supporting workstations and peripherals,
• work experience in nonprofit or philanthropic sector,
• Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills,
• Fluent in Windows, Office, iOS and cloud technologies,
• Experience configuring and/or supporting Meraki or Cisco networking equipment,
• Concrete knowledge of modern computer-networking technologies,
• Displays initiative and resourcefulness when addressing users’ issues,
• Excellent troubleshooting skills,
• Experience with SharePoint, especially SharePoint Online,
• Training or teaching experience is a plus,
• Able to research a range of topics and synthesize information concisely in a written report,
• Able to communicate technical information to nontechnical audience thoughtfully and effectively, and
• Able to handle confidential client information with complete discretion.
Responsibilities:
• Frequent onsite visits (up to 20 hrs. per week) to check on staff and address issues that cannot be resolved remotely by IT staff
• Must have flexible hours and prepare materials and availability well in advance in order to maximize productivity during the onsite visits
• Report back to Kampala and IT staff a daily task summary Check in monthly with IT Manager in the US, create meeting minutes
• Be proactive and recommend solutions to IT management for problem areas
• Flexibility in schedule to allow for additional onsite presence and support when US staff visit
• Work closely with US IT staff to develop, manage and follow up on IT projects for the Kampala office
• Assist with relationship management of the local ISPs as well as follow up on issue tickets and report concerns to the IT manager
Additional tasks could include:
• Occasional offsite trips to assist staff working remotely and/or service – purchase equipment
• Purchase and service equipment and peripherals needed to keep office infrastructure running optimally
• Understand and adhere to company’s information security policies and procedures
• Manage and keep track of IT hardware inventory
• Be available for on call support with emergency and high priority IT needs
• Report to the IT Manager in a timely fashion any network, voice or hardware related issues that require additional support or assistance
• Develop and implement technical training sessions for staff
• Meet with Kampala staff prior to their international travel to confirm all devices are secure and working properly
