About US:
Bike Aid is the national multi-route cross country bikeathon for global development in the USA. Bike Aid was founded in 1986 by a group of students at Stanford University as a program of the Overseas Development Network (ODN). ODN was a network of campus chapters across the U.S. that educated students on international development issues, and provided internships in developing countries. ODN had at its peak over 50 campus chapters and hundreds of students involved. The Kampala office will assist in the organizing of the event, to be held June-August 2022. Cyclists bike from the West Coast to the East Coast of the USA, raising awareness of climate change solutions, while raising money for environmental projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Execute the marketing plan in the United States to announce the event and recruit riders through internet, email and social media.
Send press releases to local and national media via the internet.
Find hosts for the cyclists in 250 towns and cities across the USA by contacting social service organizations in each town or city.
Setup community service projects in major cities.
Respond to calls and emails from cyclists, hosts, nonprofits and the media.
Encourage small towns to install electric car charging stations by working with them and the local electric utility company.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant should be a University graduate
Excellent written English
Good social media skills
Knowledge of United States geography, interest and/or experience in international development.
Knowledge of climate change and its solutions.
Environmental NGO work experience and Bicycling experience preferred.
