Information & Public Education Officer – Parliamentary Commission

About US:
The Parliamentary Commission of Uganda serves the following functions;
· Appoint, promote and exercise disciplinary control over persons holding public office in Parliament;
· Review the terms and conditions of service, standing orders, training and qualifications of persons holding office in Parliament;
· Provide a Parliamentary reporting service;
· Provide such other staff and facilities as are required to ensure efficient functioning of the Parliament;
· To cause to be prepared in each financial year, estimates of revenue and expenditure for the next financial year; and
· Make recommendations to Parliament, or with the approval of Parliament, determine the allowances payable and privileges available to the Speaker and Members of Parliament.

Job Summary: The Information & Public Education Officer will compile news and information for dissemination to internal and external publics and prepare news stories/articles on Parliament for broadcast purposes

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· The incumbent will coordinate the research and documentation functions in the department
· Work closely with the public and private organizations for acquisition of news and information vital for parliamentary activities
· The incumbent will coordinate media relations and other activities of the media (UPPA) at Parliament, and Produce scripts for the media houses as may be required
· Write articles for publication in newspaper columns and generate and respond to FAQ’s on the website and other information requests
· Develop radio and television talk show schedules for the Head of Department
· Prepare and provide the content/information for posting on the Parliament website, and update information on the electronic notice board
· Generate content for brochures and guidebooks as well as manage the production of the Parliamentary newsletter and other publications
· Prepare information kits for use during public education programs
· Actively engage and monitor social media on issues concerning the Parliament

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· The ideal applicants must hold Honours Bachelor’s Degrees in Mass Communication, or Communication Studies, or Public Relations or Journalism, or Arts with Communication and Public Relations studied as subjects, from a recognized University/Institution
· Commendable news writing skills
· Excellent oral communication/ public speaking skills
· Good working relations with the local media
· Excellent interpersonal skills
· Ability to work for long hours with minimum supervision
· Age: 21 years and above
