Job Summary:
The Senior Construction Engineer will be primarily responsible for ensuring the development of quality and acceptable designs by the Project Contractor, construction supervision and overall project management of the project. She/he will ensure that the key project milestones are realized within agreed timelines, while managing scope and budget. The engineers shall each be resident in a respective project region of; Northern, Central, Southern and Eastern. Applicants shall therefore specify the region of preference.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Guide the contractor during the development of the engineering design report
Supervise construction work for quality compliance
Ensure supply and use of quality materials as per the contract
Ensure adherence to construction standards and good engineering practices during installation
Review and recommend change orders and or instructions
Test and inspect all poles, equipment and materials delivered to site prior to acceptance
Facilitate the development of weekly and monthly implementation work plans and ensure compliance to these plans. He/she maintain updated weekly and monthly scheduled, dully signed off by the contractor, consultant and the engineer.
Maintain a weekly work log, monthly updated reports and quarterly updated report
Monitor the progress of the project against agreed timelines and key deliverables and ensure execution within agreed timelines.
Manage scope and budget with a focus of economic designs and construction standards
Manage and coordinate the entire value chain including suppliers, subcontractors and key stakeholders to mitigate any risks.
Prepare test protocols, schedule and facilitate network pre-commissioning and commissioning.
Facilitate site meetings and handover of completed network.
Conduct periodic defects liability inspections/audits; generate snag lists and follow-up correction of snags.
Report on progress and commitment and performance of the supervision consultants,
Ensure participation of key stakeholders during implementation of the project including the local community and service providers.
Perform any other duties as specified by the Head of Department.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
Master’s degree in engineering or related field is an added advantage
Project management training will be an added advantage
Working experience of at least five years, with at least four years’ experience in electricity construction supervision and project management.
Professional registration is an added advantage.
Knowledge in design of electricity distribution networks.
Well-developed interpersonal, communication and public relations skills.
