About UEGCL:
Uganda Electricity Generation Company Ltd was incorporated in March 2001 under the Companies Act, 2012 on the basis of the Public Enterprises Reform and Divestiture Act, Cap 98 and Electricity Act, Cap 145. UEGCL is wholly owned by the Government of the Republic of Uganda. UEGCL’s key role is to – carry on the business of electric power generation and sale within Uganda or for export to neighbouring countries; build, operate and maintain Electricity Generation Plants; monitor the operation and maintenance of its Concessioned Assets – Nalubaale and Kiira Power Stations; provide Technical Support as and when required by the Government of the Republic of Uganda through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development; Implement Flagship Hydropower Plant Projects of Karuma (600MW) and Isimba (183MW; organize, support, encourage and maintain training facilities in technical and related fields, amongst others.
Job Summary: The Mechanical Maintenance Technicians will ensure that the mechanical elements in the power plant run smoothly to generate power. The incumbent checks machines and machine components, tests their efficiency and makes repairs wherever necessary and suggests improvement of machines for better performance. Large Hydro power plants are complex systems covering a wide spectrum of engineering from light to heavy engineering, simple systems such pumps to complex units such as digital control governors, hydraulic hoists etc. The mechanical Technician will work under the supervision of the Mechanical Engineer and perform such duties as evaluate the condition of machines, diagnosing problems and where possible propose improvements. The job holder will mentor and supervise mechanics and fitters and allotting maintenance responsibilities while making sure that all safety procedures are adhered to.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Responsible to read and interpret technical assembly drawings, schematics etc. required for repair and maintenance
· Conferring with other technicians and personnel of the power plant to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions and provide technical information for improvement of maintenance
· Work closely with the Central Maintenance team, Install, test and commission mechanical machinery, equipment, systems and processes to meet the requirements of the power plant.
· Apply knowledge of engineering principals to design and make changes to installations with a view to improving performance or providing a solution to a problem- engineering solutions
· Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operations and come up with recommendations for maintenance crew.
· Manage the installation all routine maintenance and repairs at the power plant and make reports to the maintenance engineer for the planning of long outages and overhauls
· Ensuring that safety precautions are followed in the place of work
· The incumbent will provides engineering support by responding to requests for electrical problems.
· Complies with codes by adhering to requirements; advising senior management on needed actions.
· Updates and maintains supplies inventory by checking electrical material stock to determine inventory levels; anticipating needed supplies;
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· The ideal candidate should hold an HNTD Diploma in mechanical engineering, production engineering, manufacturing engineering or similar.
· Possession of post graduate certificates in other fields of engineering such as mechatronics, automation etc. is an added advantage.
· At least three years’ experience at a power plant, heavy manufacturing industry, processing plant, a major repair workshop or similar work places are needed for this position
· Excellent knowledge of machines, spare parts, operations and maintenance

· A sound knowledge regarding safety measures
· Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving abilities

· Must be highly organized, systematic and precise in work
