About UNRA:
The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) was established by an Act of Parliament; The Uganda National Authority Act, No. 15 of 2006. UNRA became operational on 1st July 2008. The mandate of UNRA is to develop and maintain the national roads network, advise Government on general roads policy and contribute to addressing of transport concerns, among others.
Job Summary: The Drainage Engineer will actively participate in the execution of hydrological and hydraulic studies for drainage catchments including determination of catchment areas and rainfall intensities; calculation of catchment run offs and discharge characteristics for bridges and drainage structures. The Drainage Engineer will also participate in the determination of flood lines, slopes, capacity and sizes of various drainage structures.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Carry out Hydraulic and Hydrological studies including
Draft Initial assessment report submitted to the Hydrologist sizing of various drainage structures
Draft Hydraulic and Hydrological report submitted to the Hydrologist.
Participate in the review of drainage aspects of all feasibility studies and designs
Ensure comments prepared and submitted to the Hydrologist
Actively participate in the inspection of drainage works to ensure design
standards are not being compromised
Ensure draft inspection reports are prepared and submitted to the Hydrologist
Actively participate in the management of risk on drainage activities
Risk register generated and updated throughout the design process.
Ensure effective mitigation measures are formulated and implemented.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Hydrologist.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant for the UNRA Drainage Engineer job vacancy should hold an honors degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Hydrology or in any other relevant field.
Professional registration with the relevant Association of professional engineers is an added advantage.
At least three years’ experience in hydraulic and hydrological engineering and studies.
High degree of integrity.
Proven track record of outstanding performance
Computer literacy skills
Excellent interpersonal, particularly staff/management relations
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to manage/supervise multi skilled teams and deliver accurate results in a timely manner and in an environment with multiple and challenging tasks.
