DFCU bank is a fast growing commercial bank offering a variety of innovative products and services. DFCU Limited was started by the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC) of the United Kingdom and the Government of Uganda through the Uganda Development Corporation (UDC) under the name of Development Finance Company of Uganda Limited. Later restructuring brought in DEG (of Germany) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) as equal partners with CDC and UDC, each having a 25% stake in the company. Its objective was to support long-term development projects whose financing needs and risk did not appeal to the then existing financial commercial lending institutions.

Job Summary: The Network Engineer is primarily responsible for the proper monitoring and maintenance of the Bank’s Local and Wide Area Networks with the aim of ensuring operational performance, capacity and security.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure availability of LAN & WAN resources and access to online services.
Conduct preventive and reactive maintenance on all network and communication equipment.
Provide network and bandwidth monitoring reports on status of all Bank links
Carry out active penetration tests and discover vulnerabilities in the network.
Develops cutting edge, innovative solutions for IT network security.
Manages security devices such as firewall, IDS and VPN
Track all business security action plans (including compliance issues identified through risk and audit assessments).
Diagnose network and other LAN/WAN related malfunctions.
Maintain an accurate hardware inventory of all network devices and communications equipment (routers, switches, firewalls, UPSs and workstations)

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant for the DFCU Bank Network Engineer job opportunity must hold a Bachelor of Science degree in telecommunications engineering and CISCO certification in networking (CCNA, CCNP, CCDA, ISE, others).
At least two years of related experience in a WAN /LAN environment, which must include configuring switches, routers and firewalls.
Possess advanced support skills for CISCO Networks and telecommunications technologies.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve network problems, install and operate network monitoring tools and maintain network documentation.
Broad knowledge and understanding of computer systems, Network operating systems and computer applications,
Network Performance Tuning, Network Design and Implementation, Problem Solving, Strategic Planning, Multi-tasking, Quality Focus, Coordination, Technical Understanding, Quick Study and Technical Zeal.
Good analytical, diagnostic and communication skills.
Ability to work independently at any Branch in an IT support capacity.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports and correspondence; speak clearly to third parties and employees.
Ability to analyze, diagnose, design, plan, execute and evaluate work to time, cost and quality targets, exhibiting thorough familiarity with available methods, procedures, tools, equipment and standards associated with own area of specialization and making correct choices from alternatives
Disposition to share ICT knowledge fully and willingly with other employees in the interest of the company
Good people management skills and ability to manage third party contractors.
