Advocacy and Policy Assistant – Kampala – International Potato Center

The International Potato Center (CIP) is a not-for-profit international agricultural research organization supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) with a global mandate to conduct research on genetic resources of potatoes, sweet potato, and other Andean roots and tubers, crop genetic enhancement and improvement, integrated crop management and sustainable management of natural resources.

Job Summary: The Advocacy and Policy Assistant will work on Fast-tracking the Access to Improved and Popular Varieties of Root Crops by Small Holder Farmers: A case of Sweet potato and Cassava.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee the advocacy, policy and orange-fleshed sweet potato work
The incumbent will also provide communications support, including:
Writing articles for local papers
Setting up and maintaining project & other relevant pages on the Sweet potato Knowledge Portal
The incumbent will also be making training videos

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate for the Advocacy and Policy Assistant should preferably hold an MSc. or BSc. plus four years professional experience in Business Administration, Management, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or related field
The applicant must possess significant experience in curriculum development and teacher training
Broad background/exposure to nutrition would be an advantage
Experience in the use of modern social media would be a plus (e.g. video, Facebook)
Excellent oral, written communications skills
Ability to effectively solve problems
Good computer skills
Accuracy and attention to detail;
Cross cultural sensitivity.
Strong e-mail communication skills, ability to write in a manner sensitive to cultural differences, and provide clarity to staff where English is not the primary working language of tire project
Ability to be a team player in a busy environment, often with tight deadlines
