Uganda WASH Alliance was established in 2011 by a consortium of Dutch funding agencies working together under the banner of Dutch WASH Alliance (DWA) with the purpose to drive the contribution of increased and sustained access to and use of safe water and sanitation services and improved hygiene practices in Uganda. The vision of the DWA is that all people are able to assert and realize their right to sustainable access to safe drinking water in sufficient quantities, adequate sanitation and hygienic living conditions in order to improve their health, nutritional status and economic living standard. The Uganda WASH Alliance (UWA) program strives to contribute to the goals of the Uganda government, in terms of increased WASH coverage, improved use of WASH services, higher levels of sustainability and functionality of the systems installed, and good WASH governance. The UWA strives to contribute to improved performance at system level, in the WASH sector as a whole, through the introduction of innovative tools and methodologies. The Uganda WASH Alliance consists of:
The Northern program, implemented by Amref Health Africa-Uganda, AFSRT and LTP.
The Rwenzori Program, Implemented by Rwenzori WASH Alliance -HEWASA, JESE, USSIA with support from PROTOS.
The National Support Program, implemented by URWA, NAWAD and NETWAS.
Job Summary: The Business Developer/Fundraiser will work closely with the three programs to develop a country specific fundraising strategy, develop and maintain partnerships with donors from the WASH sector and other related sectors in Uganda and to develop fundable proposals together with partner organizations, the private sector and government organizations that build on the existing work of the alliance.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate should preferably hold a University degree (Masters in relevant professions, MBA, social sciences, or other relevant qualifications)
At least five years’ experience in raising funds from local and international donors
Previous exposure and experience and knowledge of the WASH sector is desired, as is knowledge of the market for WASH funds with institutional donors, philanthropy and social investment funds
Prior experience and Knowledge in developing proposals for local and international donors
Excellent track record of institutional fundraising
Prepared to travel within Uganda and internationally
Excellent written and spoken English (and one other national language) (for Mali also excellent written and spoken French) (proof of excellent writing skills needs to be presented)
Good networker, excellent communicator and strong interpersonal skills
Analytical and strategic thinking
Computer literacy i.e. working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, good ICT- communication knowledge
Ability to work independently
