Job Summary: The Capacity Development Specialist will be responsible for technical leadership and oversight for program activities related to building the capacity of producer organizations to influence an enabling environment at the local government level that supports their members’ interests.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Assisting in the management of POs to identify and prioritize challenges that their members face and to develop appropriate methods for advocacy
Responsible for strengthening the capacity of POs to provide their members with education on civil rights.
Mentoring and coaching POs to articulate their concerns, interest, aspirations and participate in the decision making processes at the local level
Strengthening the capacity of POs to develop structures or networks that promote dialogue and coordinated action with POs and other entities with common objectives.
Supporting POs to develop relationships and channels of engagement with relevant local level authorities.
Technically supporting POs to monitor the implementation and enforcement of reforms, and to hold public and private institutions accountable.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The Capacity Development Specialist should preferably hold a Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or other relevant field (a diploma in a relevant field and an additional five years of experience could be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree).
At least five years’ experience in capacity development of producer organizations, community-based organizations, or associations.
Possess the ability to design capacity building strategies based on clear needs identification and understanding of the operating context, and demonstrable experience of working with producer organizations and implementation of capacity development programs.
Significant experience of working with national or local government and understanding of systems that facilitate capacity development processes for identified producer organizations.
Demonstrated experience working on programs that address issues related to equitable access and control of productive resources for women and youth
Excellent track record of achieving results in similar types of skill development activities.
Demonstrated high-level technical, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in MS Outlook, MS Word and other Microsoft Office programs as well as common internet applications.
Fluency in English, with excellent written communication skills. Ability to speak at least one Ugandan language.
Ability to travel up to 50% of his/her time. Ability to travel occasionally within the region and to the US.
Evidence of status to work legally in Uganda. Uganda national preferred.
