The Uganda National Oil Company Limited (UNOC) was established by Article 42 of the Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production) Act 2013 and incorporated under the Company’s Act 2012. It is a fully registered limited liability company wholly owned by Government of Uganda. The overall function of UNOC is; To handle the State’s Commercial interests in the Oil and Gas industry and ensure that the resource is exploited in a sustainable manner.
Job Summary: The Chief Legal and Corporate Affairs Manager will be responsible for the legal and corporate affairs of UNOC.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee all legal and regulatory and compliance requirements of the Company.
Provide legal and contractual advice to all sections of the Company including interpretation of legal and regulatory provisions and policies.
The incumbent will defend UNOC in or commence legal proceedings including courts of law and arbitrations;
Guide senior management and the Board of Directors on corporate governance issues and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
Advise UNOC on insurance policies.
Prepare minutes, agenda, notices, and subsequent correspondence in connection with meetings of the Management Committees and Board of Directors.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate for the UNOC Chief Legal and Corporate Affairs Manager should hold a Master’s Degree in Petroleum Law or Management
The incumbent must hold a Bachelor of Laws Degree (Hons). Also, the job holder must be in passion of a postgraduate diploma in legal practice, enrolled advocate with a valid practicing certificate and appears before the High Court.
A minimum of eight years’ experience in a similar or relevant organization preferably in the oil and gas industry.
He / she must also be qualified as a Company Secretary.
Excellent negotiation, mediation and arbitration, communication and interpersonal skills.
Good track record in a management position.
Broad working knowledge of legal and regulatory provisions of the Ugandan law and international law pertaining to the oil and gas industry;
