About UEGCL:
Uganda Electricity Generation Company Ltd was incorporated in March 2001 under the Companies Act, 2012 on the basis of the Public Enterprises Reform and Divestiture Act, Cap 98 and Electricity Act, Cap 145. UEGCL is wholly owned by the Government of the Republic of Uganda. UEGCL’s key role is to – carry on the business of electric power generation and sale within Uganda or for export to neighbouring countries; build, operate and maintain Electricity Generation Plants; monitor the operation and maintenance of its Concessioned Assets – Nalubaale and Kiira Power Stations; provide Technical Support as and when required by the Government of the Republic of Uganda through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development; Implement Flagship Hydropower Plant Projects of Karuma (600MW) and Isimba (183MW; organize, support, encourage and maintain training facilities in technical and related fields, amongst others.

Job Summary: The Chief Strategy and Business Development Officer will be responsible for establishing the long-term strategic objectives of the business in conjunction with other Division Heads. The incumbent will develop a strategic planning and business development framework that supports business continuity, growth and profitability, acquisition strategy, and drive New Business Initiatives. He /she will also plan, direct, and manage business development activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop a comprehensive business development strategy that is aligned to the company’s Vision and Strategic Direction.
Works closely with other Division Heads to develop a comprehensive company strategic plan and implementation of the subsequent operational plans.
Steer and provide thought leadership in the development and implementation of new business development strategies, policies, and procedures to achieve UEGCL’s strategic objectives.
Develop a policy guideline/framework for new business acquisitions and opportunities.
Steer the development of new business opportunities and concepts, ensuring that business proposals for the new ideas are developed, approved and executed.
Explore opportunities offered by partnering with other public and private organizations that could enhance the company’s business prospects.
Market the new ideas to potential investors and key stakeholders in the appropriate forums.
Technically support the overall process of management and corporate decision-making to ensure the company maximizes its short, medium, and long-term profitability and shareholder returns.
Manage capital planning and ensure that the supply and demand outlook is constantly updated, that planned capacity meets forecasted demand requirements and that alternative capital projects options are evaluated to mitigate against either delays or non-feasibility of main projects.
Ensure that potential capital projects are effectively screened, prioritized and fall within the National Development Plan (NDP) for electricity generation.
Significantly contribute to the development of the NDP for electricity generation in collaboration with the National Planning Authority (NPA), ERA, MEMD, and other stakeholders.
Manage the implementation of Public Private Partnerships by identifying and negotiating new business partnerships for Business Development.
Responsible for the Implementation of New Business Initiatives in line with the corporate strategy which includes developing a policy and agenda for research and development and providing consultancy services to external parties through establishment of a Professional Services Unit (PSU).
Coordinate with the Human Resources Division to identify, develop, deploy and retain talented staff within the division including completing performance appraisals, personal development and succession plans effectively and on time in accordance with the established performance management system.
Prepare briefs for the Top Management meeting and prepare Board papers on new business initiatives.
Build strong relationships with financiers and gain buy-in on the feasibility and justification of new projects.
Lead the interdepartmental collaborative effort to secure the financing and drive the process.
Ensure that the UEGCL as a key stakeholder actively participates in the formulation and implementation of Government Policies, Planning and Budgeting processes.
Ensure preparation and effective implementation of short, medium and long term strategic investment plans and project proposals for UEGCL.
Conduct Financial and Economic modeling to establish the viability of investment projects and their impact on the financial sustainability of the Company.
Prepare Bankable projects for purposes of sourcing of Finance from different Funding agencies.
Identify and secure investment finance in line with the overall Company Strategy.
Ensure effective development and implementation of quality assurance and quality systems to enhance satisfaction of company customers and stakeholders.
Ensure that risk management is integrated and implemented in all UEGCL business processes.
Develop a plan for UEGCL listing on the Uganda Securities Exchange to enhance the company’s ability to raise capital funds for projects and investor and public confidence.
Manage the preparation and implementation of Division budgets, plans and performance reports to support the company strategic objectives.
Perform any other tasks that may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The incumbent should possess a graduate Degree and Postgraduate qualification in Engineering, Business Management, Economics, Statistics or related discipline. Possession of a Post-graduate education in project management field is an added advantage
Affiliation to the relevant professional bodies will be an added advantage
At least ten (10) years’ of post qualification experience in a vibrant organization at senior management level in Business Development
Strategic and Financial planning, of which at least 5 should be in a Utility or Government Agency
Demonstrated leadership and negotiation skills
Possess excellent planning and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to execute projects on time and on budget.
