Communications Director – Kampala – Xavier Project

About Us:
Xavier Project is an international NGO with operations in Uganda, Kenya and UK. All operations are in Kenya and Uganda, but a majority of funds are raised in UK. We have a three way partnership agreement between the branches of Xavier Project and one executive team primarily based in the Xavier Project headquarters in Nairobi. Xavier Project currently employs 28 permanent staff and has an annual income of $500,000 which has been increasing by 50% every year since its founding in 2008.

Job Summary: The Communications Director will lead Xavier Project’s communications and marketing team and design a communications strategy.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Take responsibility for all external messages and branding being portrayed by Xavier Project
The incumbent will manage a team of three employees who will be contributing to the communications department
Manage a database of active Xavier Project supporters and initiate innovative strategies for engaging them more fully
Actively seek opportunities to spread the good reputation of Xavier Project and our vision
Oversee the management of content to be shared on social media
The incumbent will also maintain all online platforms, ensuring content reflects Xavier Project’s current activities
Design and collect/generate content for a monthly digital newsletter for donors and wider network
Maintain Xavier Project’s website and utilise the site to maximise visibility of all Xavier Project activities
Design all printed content and promotional materials
Generate photographic and video content to support campaigns and events
The jobholder will collect and develop case studies and success stories that can be used as part of fundraising appeals
Use appropriate monitoring tools to regularly check the effectiveness of communication and marketing strategies
Oversee Xavier Project’s Young Ambassadors programme
Perform any other duties that from time to time should be required

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant must hold an academic background related to Communications or Development
The Communications Director should have extensive experience in communications and a passion for advocating for educational opportunities for refugees.
Show commitment to Xavier Project’s core values and basic knowledge of refugee issues
Faultless English written communication
Engaging use of the English language in all communications
Previous exposure and experience working in a communications related role
A level of self-motivation and ability to function well in a small organisation
The position will include a design element, so knowledge of a design package is preferred
Significant amount of time spent in United Kingdom preferred (Xavier Project’s support base is largely in the UK)
The Communications Director should have extensive experience in communications and a passion for advocating for educational opportunities for refugees.
