Since its founding, AFRIpads has reached nearly 1 million women and girls across Africa and beyond with its innovative reusable menstrual kit. Headquartered in Kampala, Uganda and with a manufacturing facility in Masaka, AFRIpads currently employs over 150 staff across both locations.

Job Summary: The Communications Officer will act as the voice of AFRIpads and will strategically grow and amplify the company’s presence within Africa and worldwide. The Communications Officer will also be responsible for developing and executing all elements of the company’s communications strategy. The role allows for considerable scope, creativity and leadership. The individual will join a dynamic team in Uganda and will have the opportunity to work at the forefront of social enterprise in Africa by creating the voice that speaks to customers, entrepreneurs, investors, social impact experts, and the global community at large. The position comes with a 1-2 year contract depending on experience, with the opportunity for performance-based renewal.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage, professionalize and systematize all aspects of AFRIpads’ communications; including but not limited to the company’s website, social media platforms, blog, newsletters, PR/media, social impact reports, marketing campaigns, and communication tools and materials
Develop and implement a multi-faceted communications strategy for AFRIpads across various platforms that incorporates cutting-edge multi-media and social media products, services and platforms
The incumbent will leverage communications to uphold and advance AFRIpads’ position as an industry leader in the menstrual hygiene management space; and to strengthen the company’s profile, branding and positioning across every level in order to drive further sales, business development and expansion
Build and strengthen working relationships with members of the media and pursue continuously regional and international opportunities for brand/product exposure and media coverage, including but not limited to print and digital media, conferences, and special events
Develop and oversee production of all internal and external communication materials (brochures, press releases, web copy, newsletters, presentations, training materials, employee communications, etc.)
Develop measurement tools and KPIs to track and report progress and gauge success, and use these metrics to support and refine future communications content and actions
Support the sales and marketing departments with all company/brand communications and materials to ensure the look, tone and feel remain consistent and effective
Work closely with government, civil society organizations, private sector and other key stakeholders as the voice behind the AFRIpads brand to advance and represent the company’s social mission and objectives
Work closely with the senior management team to accelerate the company’s mission and objectives to continuously grow the scope and scale of AFRIpads’ global impact

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate should preferably hold a Bachelor’s degree from a credited university, preferably in communications, marketing, international relations, entrepreneurship, business or related fields
At least two years of professional work experience in communications, marketing, public relations or a related field with demonstrated success
Significant experience in developing and executing effective communications and marketing strategies, and producing communication materials for broad and diverse audiences (customers, investors, NGOs, government, stakeholders)
Prior experience and demonstrated expertise managing websites, social media and digital content
Strong creative skills with ability to translate ideas and concepts into unique, high-impact communication content, campaigns, activities, and events
Computer literacy i.e. proficiency in Microsoft, Adobe Suite, and social media platforms
Mastery of English with perfect command of the language, both written and oral, with excellent presentation skills
Proven ability to interact professionally and with sensitivity amongst culturally diverse staff, customers, and stakeholders
A leader who takes initiative and has ability to work independently and proactively, with excellent time management and project management skills
Graphic design and web design skills are an added advantage
Previous experience working in or with low-income countries
Flexibility with shifting priorities and competing demands in a fast-paced, challenging work environment
