Community Health Officer (2 Employment Placements) – Action Against Hunger

Action Against Hunger (ACF) is an international humanitarian NGO. For over thirty years it has been implementing Food Security and Livelihoods, Nutrition, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene programs in Lira, Apac, Oyam, Otuke, Gulu, Kaabong, Napak, Moroto, Adjumani and Kiryandongo Districts.

Job Summary: The Community Health Officer will be responsible for supporting Village Health Teams and communities to ensure early identification, referral and follow-up of acutely malnourished children < 5yrs and pregnant/ lactating women among south Sudanese refugees and the host communities. In addition, they will ensure promotion of good health and nutrition practices amongst displaced populations and host communities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Regularly sensitize communities, community leaders and local government leaders about the project, mobilize community support for the activities and facilitate information sharing with the target communities
Actively facilitate the identification of Village Health Teams among displaced populations and participate in the regular mentorship and support on active case finding, referral and follow-up to ensure compliance.
Oversee the community health and nutrition education on key essential nutrition actions, infant and young child feeding and prevention of hygiene related diseases in refugee settlements and host communities
Actively participate in baseline and routine nutrition screening within the refugee settlements and host communities.
Works in consultation with the nutrition officer to develop activity plans for the community nutrition activities and complete the activities within project time frame.
Manage reporting on project progress, success stories and lessons learned during project implementation
Prepare weekly and monthly reports in standard reporting format
Perform any other duties as assigned from time to time

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant should preferably hold a Bachelor Degree in health, social work, nutrition, community development or any other related discipline
At least two years’ experience working with district health teams, VHTs/ Community Health workers.
Prior experience in community nutrition programs will be an added advantage
Proven ability to engage communities and local leaders in development initiatives
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Possession of a valid riding permit
Fluent in written and spoken English
Good knowledge of Dinka/Nuer/ Arabic/Acholi
