Community Health Officer – International Rescue Committee

Job Summary:
The Community Health Officer will be responsible for the direct implementation of community health services aimed at improving the overall wellbeing of the refugee population and catchment populations in IRC supported health facilities in Lamwo .

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Provide technical support to health workers and community structures to conduct integrated community outreaches, health promotion campaigns, and disease surveillance and sensitization activities to mitigate potential disease outbreaks, using messages approved by the Ministry of Health (MoH).
· Assist in the development of appropriate program monitoring tools and continuously assess the health-related needs of the community, identify gaps and adapt program activities to respond to these gaps while providing oversight to community networks (youth clubs, drama groups, VHTs, and youth friendly corners).
· Identify and roll out communication strategies for the community health program including the printing, monitoring availability and distribution of IEC materials as well as job aids for community activities.
· Ensure distribution of IPC equipment and supplies to supported communities.
· Facilitate and support collection of the necessary community program data that informs programming in the relevant tools, while supporting the health facilities/VHT with necessary reporting requirements and mentorships.
· Coordinate referral strategies from community to the health facilities especially through the VHT system.
· Conduct capacity building activities for health assistants and community resource persons including VHTs, mother care group facilitators, community leaders etc.
· Liaison
· Represent IRC at district, health sub-district and donor agencies in various fora.
· In collaboration with the DHT, participate in the support supervision visits to support Health facilities within the settlement.
· Maintain regular contact with all partners, including the DHT, Ministry of Health, and stakeholders on all matters pertaining to the program to avoid duplication of service.
Communication / Reporting:
· Provide regular feedback to the medical officer on community program implementation.
· Assist in preparation of donor reports.
Confidentiality:
· Ensuring the non-disclosure of any information whatsoever relating to the practices and business of IRC acquired in the course of duty, to any other person or organization without authority, except in the normal execution of duty

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· The ideal applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree in nursing or diploma in clinical medicine/nursing with additional training in public health or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
· Must be registered with a professional body.
· At least two years’ experience of working with district, health facility staff and community-based groups such as VHTs.
· Previous work with an NGO in similar programs.
· Good experience in monitoring and evaluation of programs.
· Good report writing skills.
· Ability to enhance interpersonal relationship.
· Good communication skills.
· Strong command of both written and spoken English.
· Good knowledge and application of Microsoft word, Excel and Power Point.
· Proven interpersonal skills
· Computer literate in MS, internet, power point, etc.
· Managerial skills
