East and Southern Africa Programmes – Malaria Consortium

Malaria Consortium is recruiting for East and Southern Africa Programmes Director to join our team and be based in either the UK or Uganda office.

About the role
This is a unique opportunity for an individual enthusiastic about leading and growing a high performing team. The successful candidate has oversight of over 4 country programmes and currently will manage 4 Country Directors, the Kampala-based Regional Programme Support Manager, and the Africa Office Manager. This role is line managed by the Chief Executive.
The position will play a leading role in supporting the development and implementation of Malaria Consortium Strategy, presence and project portfolio in East & Southern Africa. As a member of the Global Management Group, the successful candidate is involved in developing and implementing systems and tools, programme plans and strategies, as well as statutory, governance and donor reporting requirements. The successful candidate contributes to the financial management of the region and plays a major role in new business acquisition.

Skills and requirements
Knowledge
At its core, MC partners with Health organisations and all levels of governments to successfully improve the lives of all we work with in Africa and Asia, the successful candidate requires an understanding of the market that MC operates in.
The successful candidate will have previous Country Director and Regional role experience in the health sector, and with major international donors.

Skills
The successful candidate needs to have strong analytical and leadership skills, including the ability to inspire staff to be committed, encourage them to continuously strive for improvement, ensure they focus on achieving MC’s strategy, goals and priorities, and mobilise the resources they require to succeed.
The successful candidate also needs to have strong management skills, in terms of organising people, structures, systems and processes to deliver plans efficiently and effectively, managing performance and motivating teams. Strategy and Organisational development skills are also crucial for this role.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate that they are comfortable working in a matrixed organisation, where they need to provide leadership to staff who do not directly report to them. The successful candidate will also need to be able to externally represent MC successfully to diverse stakeholders to positively advance the reputation of the organisation, therefore excellent communication skills is required
This is a full-time position based in our office in either Kampala, (Uganda) or potentially the United Kingdom.
