About NFA:
The National Forestry Authority (NFA) is a Government agency established under the National Forestry and Tree Planting Act, 2003 as a corporate body responsible for sustainable development and management of Central Forest Reserves (CFRs) and provision of technical support to stakeholders in the forest sub-sector.
Job Summary: The Eco-Tourism Specialist should ensure the development and effective management of ecotourism sites and business in selected Central Forest Reserves.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Prepare and manage the implementation of NFA Ecotourism Development Plan and guidelines.
· Coordinate the development of public private partnerships for management of ecotourism businesses in CFR’s.
· Develop market and promote ecotourism sites under the management of NFA.
· The job holder will implement unit plans, budgets and ensure regular progress reports.
· Actively monitor environmental impacts associated with development of infrastructure and ecotourism services by private sector.
· Identify unique sites and attractions for ecotourism development in CFR’s.
· Develop and implement partnerships for community participation in Ecotourism activities in CFR’s.
· Ensure efficient revenue collection from both private and NFA Ecotourism sites.
· Implement and monitor licenses and MOU’s with the private sector, NGOs and Local Communities for ecotourism business in CFRs.
· Perform any other related duties as approved by the Director Natural Forests.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· The ideal candidate should hold an Honours degree in Tourism or a related field. Postgraduate training in tourism is an added advantage
· A minimum of three years’ experience in business management working with Private or public sector tourism entity.
· Skills in developing and implementing Tourism Business Plans as well as net working and marketing.
· Knowledgeable of Forest Environment and Nature based Tourism.
· Capacity to work with private sector to ensure environmentally responsible development of Tourism infrastructure.
· Capacity to develop cost effective and practical ICT programs to facilitate tourist booking, maintenance of visitor records and Monitoring of revenue inflows.
