About GIZ EnDev:
Energising Development (EnDev) is a global multi-donor partnership implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) that facilitates access to modern energy services in 24 countries worldwide. In Uganda, EnDev, under the Promotion of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Programme (PREEEP) cooperates closely with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD). EnDev Uganda facilitates access to modern energy services through market development with the private sector for improved cook stoves (ICS) and solar PV products. In its ICS programme component, EnDev Uganda supports Ugandan ICS companies to increase their production capacity, improve their product and service quality as well as competitiveness and marketability.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Concept development and provision of support to partner companies and NGOs in regard to successful project management and implementation
Providing strong energy sector expertise and coordination with other development partners and governmental entities
Coordination of field activities with our up-country offices and partnering NGOs
Guiding the development of innovative approaches and pilot projects
Supporting the supervisor in his management and technical tasks as well as in the further strategic development of the programme
Tasked with the development of concepts, strategies and budgets with private sector j cook stove and solar companies and NGOs to strengthen their business operations for the achievement of sales and household j energy access targets
Preparation and management of contracts with partner companies | and NGOs as well as consultancies
Providing strong expertise within the energy sector and representing j GIZ in technical and policy meetings and establishing very good j working relations with other relevant stakeholders
Project management and regular monitoring to ensure successful implementation of interventions
In charge of the coordination of field activities with the EnDev Uganda upcountry offices in Gulu and Arua as well as partnering NGOs in addition to regular monitoring and coordination visits to project areas
Knowledge management, communication, networking and reporting
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate for the Master’s degree in a relevant area such as development studies, renewable energy, environmental management, business or social administration or other related fields
Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualifications are an added advantage
At least five years of professional working experience in a similar position in the energy sector, including at least three 3 years of active engagement with the private sector, ideally in a management position
At least five years of professional experience in project management and staff and consultant coordination
Broad knowledge and understanding of the energy sector in Uganda and of international energy trends in regard to household energy access
Highly experienced in communication related tasks, concept development and reporting
Very good practical and theoretical knowledge about monitoring and verification
Previous experience in working independently and result oriented with a minimum of supervision
Previous experience in market-based approaches and/or in the household energy sector are added advantages
Excellent communication skills, both orally and written
Outstanding presentation skills
Excellent English language skills
Computer literacy with good knowledge of MS Office (especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Willingness to continuous learning
