Engineering Supervisor – Kitgum – Danish Refugee Council

DRC is an International non-governmental organisation, which promotes and supports durable solutions to the problems faced by refugees and internally displaced people all over the world.

In Uganda, DRC assists the refugees from neighbouring countries mainly DR Congo and South Sudan in the South West, West and West Nile region of the country. DRC’s assistance to refugees have been both emergency assistance to address the short term influxes from the neighbouring countries as well as to address the sustainable solutions for the refugees. DRC isalso the lead of a Consortium (Save the Children, ZOA, and CEFORD) for the implementation of an EU Trust Fund project in Adjumani, Kiryandongo and Rhino camp.

Purpose
The main purpose of the position is quality Assurance for infrastructure works and its components.

Key Responsibilities
Supervise the construction of all infrastructure works and ensure works are carried out as per set standards specified in the Infrastructure Manual.
Prepare bills of quantities for construction works.
Prepare budget estimates for infrastructure related activities.
Prepare engineering drawings and designs.
Monitor quality and quantity of materials used in the field.
Conduct technical assessments as and when required.
Prepare monthly work plans and reporting on actual work achieved against work plan.
In charge of technical report preparation and to maintain an update on all infrastructure works in the Acholi Sub – Region.
Supervise Engineering Assistant(s), masons and ensure that the workmanship is as per set standards.
Staff supervision and capacity building
Liaise with the District Engineering Departments for any technical advice.
Be part of the budget preparation and monitoring for the activities
Prepare weekly, monthly or quarterly reports as may be required
Any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
The supervisor may assign performing any other duties

Position and Reporting Line:
The Engineering Supervisor reports to the Regional Manager. The position supervises Engineering assistants.

Personal Specifications
Essential:**
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering;
At least 4 years of relevant work experience in labor based constructions
Being a strong team player and adept at creating a strong team spirit;
Proven ability to work creatively and independently both in the field and office;
Ability to work with culturally diverse groups of people;
Ability to travel and work in difficult conditions and under pressure;
