Field Supervisor – BPRM and SFP Grants – Action Against Hunger

Action Against Hunger (ACF) is an International Humanitarian NGO which has been in existence for over thirty years. ACF has been implementing Food Security and Livelihoods, Nutrition, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene programs in the Lango, Acholi, West Nile and Karamoja regions of Northern Uganda.

Job Summary: The Field Supervisor –BPRM and SFP Grants will work in liaison with the Deputy Program Manager shall pro- actively monitor nutrition program and related nutrition activities under the WFP grant at health facility, household or community level; supervise daily implementation of activities and their contribution towards achieving desired project objectives and results. They can be the direct interface between Action Against Hunger and communities. The field Supervisor is responsible for identification and verification of programme participants, facilitation of household action planning, programme monitoring, support to participant training, contribution to programme reporting, and the identification and initial trouble-shootingof field level implementation problems.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical Support:
Tasked with the integration of malnutrition management within health service delivery (i.e. at health facilities and in outreaches) and ensuring monthly performance indicators are within acceptable sphere standards
Ensure the implementation of Vitamin and Mineral Powder (VMP) program at both health facility and community level, ensuring that the right beneficiaries are targeted in the programs
Ensure that the capacity of the district health systems to supervise, evaluate, monitor and provide curative approaches against disease and acute malnutrition is strengthened
Support the logistical operations for IMAM at health facilities of operation alongside the Program and Deputy Program Managers

Capacity Building:
Work in close liaison with the DPM, organise and supervise all project capacity development activities including refresher training for health workers on ENA, IYCF and BFHI; on-job mentorship sessions for health workers on BFHI and IYCF; training VHTs and health workers on VMP activities; training of district and VHTs on disease surveillance and referral pathways during disease outbreaks and regular on job mentorship and support
Ensure that health workers and VHTs have necessary capacity development tools and materials.
Assessment and Reporting:
Take part in all project review assessments, surveys and studies including Monthly & Quarterly donor reports, Action Against Hunger internal reports (Project Activity Reports (APRs), SITREP) and activity reports (meetings, community dialogues and drama shows and any other activity)
Support the establishment of a database for community health workers (VHT, Lead mothers & Demonstration site leaders) and regularly monitor and evaluate their activities
Staff Management & Supervision:
Ensure that staff under your supervision are effectively engaged in their tasks and perform their duties according to Action Against Hunger expectations
Ensure that staff under your supervision develop quarterly activity workplans and adhere to them
Identify training needs of staff under your supervision and suggest an appropriate training plan
Coordination & Representation:
Mobilize communities and community leaders to participate in Action Against Hunger project community activities and organize regular community meetings to address areas for program improvement
Actively participate in internal and external meetings according to the DPM guidance

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate for the Action Against Hunger (ACF) Field Supervisor job opportunity should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or Public Health
At least two years’ experience in nutrition, public health or related health implementation
Broad knowledge and experience in implementation of community nutrition and health programs with demonstrated leadership for a Micro Nutrient supplementation project
Knowledge of word processor, spreadsheet and software use like ENA, SPSS plus other programs advantageous
Demonstrated leadership skills
Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently
Extremely flexible with the ability to cope with stressful situations
Excellent reporting skills with good oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of the local language is an added advantage
Diplomatic and culturally sensitive
Fluency in written and spoken English
Fluency in the local language is a must
Possession of a valid riding permit
Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English
