Summary
Nascent Solutions (Nascent) seeks a Senior Gender Advisor to lead crucial aspects of an anticipated 5-year Food for Peace project in Karamoja, Uganda, funded by USAID. Reporting to the project’s Chief of Party, the Karamoja-based Senior Gender Advisor is responsible for leading gender integration across all project aspects.
The project seeks to employ a holistic approach to building resilience of communities through integrated food security, nutrition, and livelihoods initiatives shaped by a deep understanding of community and household stresses and shocks in Karamoja.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct a gender analysis to determine gender gaps in food security, nutrition, and livelihoods;
Develop a gender action plan to effectively integrate gender equality and social inclusion into program objectives and strategies, M&E plan, workplans, and activities, including mitigation measures to address gender gaps identified in gender analysis, indicators to measure progress, and a messaging strategy for gender and social inclusion-related communications;
Assist in the design of activities that target women and other underrepresented groups, and encourage participation of women in male-dominated fields;
Develop tools and metrics to track impacts on women and girls;
Provide gender-related training and capacity building for program staff and partners;
Act as the focal person for linking project efforts to promote gender equality and social inclusion, and engage organizations focusing on women, girls and members of traditionally disadvantaged groups.
Skills and Attributes
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field;
Minimum of five years of progressively increasing responsibility in gender issues within international development projects;
In-depth understanding of gender, age, and other socio-cultural factors in the context of food security programming;
Demonstrated capacity to lead the collection, analysis, and utilization of information from a broad range of sources in order to ensure effective integration of gender and youth concerns throughout the project’s duration;
Ability to foster commitment and build capacity among activity staff and in-country actors to gender integration and empowerment;
Proven leadership skills. Demonstrated experience recruiting, developing, and managing staff;
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with host governments, donors, other donor-funded projects and stakeholders, local organizations, and partners;
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and other languages, as required;
Ability to travel within the country and internationally, as required.
Demonstrated ability to work in physically and mentally challenging conditions.
