The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is an international non-profit organization which is a partnership of infectious diseases and public health specialists. The overall objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems with strong emphasis on Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity Development. IDI has five operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory services (provided through a partnership with the Makerere University – John Hopkins University Core Lab) and Outreach.

About CDC Project:
Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) received funding from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)/PEPFAR to implement a comprehensive HIV/AIDS services in the mid-western Uganda Districts of Kiboga, Kibaale, Kyankwanzi, Hoima, Masindi, Buliisa and Kiryandongo. The project is called “Accelerating Comprehensive HIV/AIDS Service Delivery through Health System Capacity Building and Technical Assistance of District Health Teams and Health Facilities in Western and West Nile Regions in the Republic of Uganda under PEPFAR.”

Job Summary: The HIV Prevention Technical Officer will offer technical support to project and HF staff and DHTs to ensure timely and quality accelerated HIV/AIDS prevention services especially those targeting key populations..

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will design, monitor and report on key activities related to HIV/AIDS prevention scale up in West Nile.
Offer support in mentoring activities for HCWs in relation to HIV /AIDS prevention services in West Nile especially those targeting key populations.
Support roll out of National HIV treatment guidelines and other related guidelines in HIV/AIDS prevention services in West Nile especially those targeting key populations
Provide on call/distance TA support for the handling of complicated cases.
Support Quality Assurance of HIV//AIDS prevention services in West Nile especially those targeting key populationsat facilities and recommend corrective action.
Provide technical support in the planning related to HIV/AIDS prevention services in West Nile especially those targeting key populations.
Perform any other duties as may reasonably be assigned from time to time by the Outreach HIV Prevention Coordinator.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate for the HIV Prevention Technical Officer vacancy should hold a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields; Social Sciences, Education, SWASA, Development Studies, Community and Adult Education, Community Psychology, Guidance and counseling or BSc. Nursing or Medicine
Evidence of having attended specialized training in HIV/AIDS
Hold active registration with the relevant professional body.
At least two years’ experience in providing technical assistance and mentorship of HCWs in HIV/AIDS prevention within MoH structures and systems especially targeting key populations.
Broad working knowledge and experience in HIV/AIDS management and prevention.
Good working knowledge of HIV/AIDS prevention programs, strategies, processes and techniques used to plan, develop, implement and evaluate results of HIV/AIDS programs.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team.
Working knowledge of USG programming policies and regulations, MoH and district procedures and practices.
