Eskom Uganda Limited is a subsidiary company of Eskom Enterprises based in South Africa. Our business is operating and maintaining Nalubaale and Kiira hydroelectric Power Stations. Their mission is to be the “Centre of Excellence in Power Concession Management.”

Job Summary: The ICT Officer will ensure overall reliability of the computing infrastructure; achieved by identifying network requirements through; designing and planning, setting up, maintaining, securing and expanding the network. The jobholder will also be responsible for planning, developing, and maintaining a comprehensive, enterprise-wide information security program to protect EUL electronic data and network infrastructure from external and internal security breaches and to ensure that security measures taken are in compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements regarding information access, security and privacy.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Establishes network specifications by conferring with users; analyzing workflow, access, information, and security requirements.
Establishes network by evaluating network performance issues including availability, utilization, throughput, good-put, and latency; planning and executing the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of equipment; defining network policies and procedures; establishing connections and firewalls.
Maintains network performance by performing network monitoring, analysis, and tuning; troubleshooting network problems; escalating problems to vendor secure network by developing network access, monitoring, control, and evaluation; maintaining documentation.
Implements and manages a framework to ensure that all ICT security incidents are identified, logged, actioned and reviewed to ensure they do not adversely impact the security of the systems, or if they do that the impact is managed/mitigated appropriately.
Prepares users by designing and conducting training programs; providing references and support.
Ensures a defect fault log for the network is managed and that good quality service is supplied to end users – ITIL (critical, medium and low)
Diagnoses and fixes a variety of computer software and operating system problems according to ITIL standards.
Carries out routine maintenance of network and database assets (backup, check logs and events and performance tests)
Performs routine information security management through setting access permission levels/ rights and reviewing security logs. In addition, Identifies and report IT related risks to the ICT Manager, and ensuring compliance to the IT policies and procedures in place.
Routinely maintain and update the EUL asset register and provide quarterly report on EUL IT assets.
Plans and implements mitigations to departmental risks, and monitor continuous improvement.
Ensures a well-controlled disaster recovery environment including interim and monthly back-ups of all business information, and provides a monthly report for the performed backups.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidates must hold Degrees in Computer Science or Information Technology
At least two years’ experience working with network infrastructure, WAN and LAN Networks, and managing information and system security in a complex multi-platform computer systems and network environments.
Professional Qualification (one or more):
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
Cisco Certified Network Associate Security (CCNA Security)
Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP)
Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) with specialization in Security
Good knowledge of Windows 2000/2003 server, SuSe Linux server, Windows 2000/XP workstation, MS Exchange and Mdaemon Email servers, Symantec Backup Exec, and Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition
Working knowledge of PC/LAN application software including word processing (Word or WordPerfect), spreadsheets (Excel or Quattro Pro), and administration in database management and development tools. Must be able to install, configure, and administer those systems.
Working knowledge of LAN and WAN topologies and architecture, including Multi Vlan architecture. Must be able to construct, operate and maintain LAN and WAN Networks.
Extensive knowledge of network equipment such as switches, routers, hubs, and associated equipment and how to construct and maintain networks.
Broad knowledge and understanding of Firewall servers and basic rule setting programming.
Good knowledge of email clients like Eudora, Outlook, and Webmail.
ICT User Training and Support
Skilled and experiences in developing and administering web sites/Web servers
Broad information on security issues, requirements and trends plus risk assessment methods and techniques.
Implementation of data security strategies for large mainframe or data center environments including Authentication, authorization and encryption technologies
