Livelihoods Officer – Kampala – Cheshire Services Uganda

About US:
Cheshire Services Uganda is a nongovernmental organization working the field of disability and development. CSU works with and for Persons with Disabilities through four thematic programme areas of Livelihoods, Inclusive Education, Advocacy and campaign, health and rehabilitation. CSU in collaboration with Leonard Cheshire Disability has received funding from the European Union to implement a three year livelihoods project for Persons with Disabilities in Adjuman and Moyo districts.

Job Summary: The Livelihoods Officer will primarily manage the placement requirements of Persons with Disabilities and support them to transit from training to employment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for collecting information on various livelihood and career /job opportunities available in various sectors and create a database of the same.
Works in liaison with the LRC Manager in employment profiling of each candidate and placement.
Identify and contact potential employers in public, private, NGO or the government sector and establish linkages for training, placement, apprenticeship, job shadowing working closely with the Training Officer.
Organize employers sensitization programmes and job fairs at the LRCs
Organize workshops on employment for Persons with Disabilities
Refer the trainees to suitable vacancies
Provide regular follow-up with candidates and employers to ensure successful placements
Offer regular follow-up with self-employed trainees and provide support as needed.
Oversee start-up and grants for trained Persons with Disabilities
Map and identify existing social protection schemes and link them to Persons with Disabilities
Works closely with families of Persons with Disabilities to support transition from training to employment

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate for the EU Project should hold a relevant bachelor’s degree in any relevant field.
At least two years of work experience in development related activities.
Good awareness of market trends in terms of skills and job requirements.
Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English.
Excellent interpersonal skills
Good knowledge and understanding of disability related issues
Computer literacy skills
Good working knowledge of local language is desired
Working knowledge of Sign Language is also desired
