Job Summary: The Livelihoods & Youth Empowerment Specialist plays a key role in the direction and coordination of the Livelihoods/Food Security/DRR programming section. As a member of the Extended Senior Management Team (ESMT) in Uganda, the Livelihoods & Youth Empowerment Specialist is responsible for the development of high quality, innovative programs that deliver immediate and lasting change for children, and monitoring the quality of the implementation of Livelihoods/Food Security/DRR program activities. The incumbent will also play a key role in developing the advocacy priorities for the Livelihoods/Food Security/DRR program area and participating in advocacy, particularly at the National level. The Livelihoods & Youth Empowerment Specialist is also responsible for providing technical assistance and appropriate monitoring and evaluation in emergency responses.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate for the Save the Children Livelihoods & Youth Empowerment Specialist job opportunity should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Education, Development Studies, Emergency and Disaster Management, Conflict Resolution or a relevant field. Graduate or post-graduate training in project planning & management, monitoring and evaluation, community development & research or related field is an added advantage.
At least eight years relevant working experience with three years at management level in an international NGO.
Extensive knowledge and understanding of Save the Children working principles and approaches Child Participation, Child Rights Programming, Partnership, Child Safeguarding, Zero Tolerance, Monitoring and Evaluation, Programme Integration etc.
Demonstrable financial, planning and budget management skills a MUST.
Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Ability to intervene with crisis management or troubleshooting as necessary.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching
Excellent time management and planning capacity
Excellent planning, coordination and reporting skills, with the ability to organize a substantial workload comprised of complex, diverse tasks and responsibilities
Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.
Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout the country.
Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.
Past exposure and experience of working with local partners and District Local Government in Child Rights Governance, Health, Nutrition, Education, HIV/AIDS or Child Protection is an added advantage.
Excellent analytical skills and strategic planning abilities.
Ability to establish and maintain conducive collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a team.
Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.
