Logistics Sales and Operations Manager – Kampala – MEBS Global

Established in 2011, the Kenya office is the hub for the East Africa region Operations and it provides freight forwarding and relocations services to and from the region to a wide range of International companies and customers, our operations are growing every year.

Job Summary: The Logistics Sales and Operations Manager will be accountable for the operations follow up and customer experience management for during the start of our operations in Kampala, Uganda. The incumbent will start the operations, build relationships with clients, book business and relate to vendors to ensure the smooth running of operations. He / she will also ensure continual great service to our clients and bring up client’s feedback to management for corrective actions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Lead generation and Business Development:
The incumbent will establish contacts with MEBS reporting historic clients find and approach new clients. Find out and follow up with them on potential business or tenders being published.
Work in liaison with the Nairobi office and management on tenders and RFP to develop competitive proposal to be able to win business and sign contracts.
2. Clients Management
In tight collaboration with the Nairobi office, you will be responsible for receiving client requests for quotation, pricing out those quotations, submitting bids to clients, and then upon acceptance of the quote, guiding the operation from start to finish.
The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining client contacts, managing transport and service vendors (including contracting and billing), and managing the customs clearance process being completed by MEBS subcontractors to ensure efficient work-flow and correct process.
Keenly review all Cost & Rev for each shipment arrived at destination, before invoicing the client. Make sure each invoice has been included in the file and make sure the green file is complete with all supporting documents;
Bring up any issues in quoting and operations and be actor in proposing long lasting solutions to operation problems;
Establishing and developing a network with existing and potential vendors in Uganda, Eastern DRC and Rwanda, and continuously negotiate rates for more competitiveness.
3. Tracking and Reporting:
Prepare and discuss with the management monthly sales performance;
Ensure monthly reporting of quotations sent, jobs booked, and shipment follow up;
Ensure monthly reporting of projects and shipments is done
Be an actor in the continuous improvement process – Open the files with the Root Cause Analysis and make sure those are completed before forwarding to the management for review and action

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The candidate should preferably have at least five years’ experience ideally from a shipping, logistics background
Prior experience in Relocation and Household goods operations
Possess background knowledge in freight forwarding
Excellent track record of successfully managed client experiences
Be a self-starter who is excited about exploring new experiences
You know how to communicate to stakeholders from diverse geographic and socio-economic backgrounds
Be self-driven, and can approach customer to develop brand recognition and close deals
Ability to clearly articulate yourself in English both in writing and speaking
Possess a vibrant personality and are a natural relationship builder
You are confident in your abilities and don’t shy away from sharing your thoughts
Ability to operate independently and under pressure
Ability to plan, organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks in an orderly, efficient manner
Exude positivity
Excellent email writing skills, clear and concise while still maintain a courteous expression
Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point)
Highly proactive and comfortable working alone with minimal supervision
Be confident to express your thoughts and give recommendations to management
Have a proactive approach in addressing new situations and challenges
