About OSIEA:
The Open Society Initiative for Eastern Africa OSIEA’s particular focus will be on pastoralism, land tenure governance, food systems and market access, governance and anti-corruption climate change and a fair investment framework. The Open Society Initiative for Eastern Africa promotes vibrant, tolerant democracies in the region by awarding grants, developing programs, and bringing together diverse civil society leaders and groups. The Open Society Initiative for Eastern Africa (OSIEA) is implementing the health and rights program which advances health rights in the region and current areas of focus include maternal health, harm reduction, palliative care, access to medicines, and health rights of marginalized populations.

Job Summary: The Manager: Grants Management will play a focal role in ensuring effective management of grant making process, build capacity and strengthen systems to improve grant making process and enhance integrity and accountability in grant making.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Grants Management: Oversee and act as OSIEA’s expert of the grant making process which includes grants applications, documentation and timely submission of grant reports: manage all consultancy contracts: ensure compliance with government regulations and OSIEA requirements on all grant applications; review grants proposals and supporting documents for
Training and capacity building: Prepare and deliver external trainings for OSIEA grantees on grants management and compliance; identify professional development and training opportunities for OSIEA staff in grants making; undertake internal trainings for OSIEA staff on grants management systems.
Project management: Co-ordinate programs in reviewing eligibility assessment of prospective grantees; ensure that the grants review and award process is in line with OSIEA grants policies and procedures; support programs in the review of financial internal audit reports.
General management: Provide leadership for the Grants Unit; manage and coach staff for improved performance;
Grant policy making: Formulate and review grant policies and procedures; assist in managing fraud and implementing whistle blowing policy and protocol.
Grant monitoring & evaluation: Design and execute grantee monitoring processes, including conducting assessments and site visits; collecting and analysing data, documenting results, identifying and discussing implications; proactively interprete and assess grantee gaps, provide technical assistance as necessary.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate should preferably hold an advanced degree in a relevant field such as Accounting, Finance, Project Management and Business Administration.
At least ten years of related work experience
Broad knowledge and understanding of current regional regulations related to grant making.
Good understanding of accounting procedures and processes in the management of projects.
Knowledge of grants management software and should possess information technology skills.
Ability to design and implement effective workflow processes and procedures.
Extraordinary initiative, creativity and capacity to think strategically.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a diverse array of people.
Team spirit and respectful working and decision-making style.
Strong organizational skills and ability to pay close attention to detail.
Integrity, diplomacy and professionalism will be essential.
Willingness to travel as needed
