Job Summary: The Managing Director will be deputizing for the Country Director as required, and is a member of the senior executive of MSU with oversight of operations and programme combined on behalf of the Country Director. S/he manages and is accountable for the performance of a diverse, multidisciplinary national and international Management Team made up of core departments achieving high quality work and a growing programme that generates CYPs, generates income for sustainability in Uganda. The Managing Director delivers: effective programmes with donated funds that are disbursed on time and compliant to contract requirements; sustainable social enterprise activities that deliver clinical services and product sales to agreed targets; strategic direction for the organizations work in Uganda and a balanced budget to ensure organizational stability.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Effective leadership of an efficiently structured and able team inspired and motivated to deliver high quality work:
Responsible for the development of an effective high performing exec team that is mutually supportive, motivated and trusted by the organisation’s rank and file
Adherence to clearly articulated and disseminated staffing policies offering fairness and transparency to the whole team
Ensure inclusive and clear planning processes that establish and track accountabilities of all departments and team
Organisational design and management in alignment with org values and mission
2. Contribution to programme strategy and the delivery and growth related business:
In charge of the development and communication to the ET of strategic ideas to the ET
Development of draft business plans for approval and the regular ongoing analysis of programme performance and intelligence on outside factors effecting work
Excellent delivery by teams of project commitments
Ensure a good social marketing performance
Excellent procurement and finance systems delivering compliant service support to all programme work
Excellent networking and partnership building to develop opportunities for strategic action
3. The management of risk associated with MSU programming:
Monitoring risk as per risk register
Reporting on action plans agreed
Technically supporting further development
Responsible for the management of security and related information
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The Managing Director should hold a Relevant degree or equivalent experience to ensure excellent leadership and management that result in high performance of the whole team
Previous experience in a senior management and leadership positions with a track record of achieving results and driving growth.
Past experience of running a business and reporting to a Board is desirable as is an understanding of sexual and reproductive health programming.
