Job Summary: The Natural Resources Management Specialist (Soils & Land Use) will be responsible for the integration of environmental concerns in all national planning through coordination with relevant stakeholders.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Regularly review and develop national strategies for sound sustainable management of land / soils;
· Develop and ensure implementation of effective land / soils monitoring systems;
· Review sectoral policies and plans to ensure integration of sustainable land/ soil management considerations into policies, plans and programs in collaboration with relevant agencies;
· Organize studies aimed at ensuring sound sustainable land and soil management;
· Offer technical support in land use/ soils management as may be required by different Government sectors, Institutions and individuals.
· Receive, compile and prioritize required support for sound land and soil management and develop strategies and /or programs for the required support to relevant sectors, institutions and individuals;
· Offer technical support to ensure the integration of sound land and soil management considerations into the district environment action plan and development plans;
· Organize internal meetings to inform and update other staff with in NEMA on strategies for sound land and soil management;
· Receive and review the lead agencies technical reports and assess progress and requirements in sound land and soil management;
· Work closely with the relevant lead agencies, institutions and individuals to promote sound land/soil management practices;
· Guide the government on international and regional programs and agreements and protocols on land and soil management;
· Perform any other tasks that may be assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· The applicant should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following: Environmental Science; Natural Resources management; Agriculture; Agriculture Engineering and/or Geography. Possession of a Master’s Degree in soil science or any of the above is a must.
· At least eight years’ experience in field or research particularly in soil science and land use management is prerequisite.
· Additional training in Environmental Monitoring or inspection discipline will also be an added advantage.
· Comprehensive working knowledge and experience in ecosystem functions and change, environmental performance standards and climate change as an environmental change phenomenon and science with its mitigation and adaptation.
· Capacity to work with minimum supervision
