Makerere University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) is a private-not-for profit Company under Makerere University. MJAP works to build partnerships and strengthen health systems to optimally respond to HIV/AIDS, TB and other diseases of public health importance in Africa.

About Project:
MJAP will work in close collaboration with the Rakai Health Sciences Program (RHSP) to implement a program on Accelerating HIV/AIDS Epidemic Control in Masaka region (Gomba, Butambala, Sembabule and Mpigi districts). In addition, MJAP is anticipating a sub-award grant for accelerating HIV/AIDS Epidemic Control in Kampala region; under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

Job Summary: The Prevention Advisor will provide technical guidance to the districts to improve the quality of HIV prevention services; through effective planning, implementation and monitoring of these services (HTS, Key and Priority, Pre Exposure Prophylaxis, VMMC, PMTCT etc.) in line with the project objectives and district goals.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide technical guidance to the districts and the health facilities to provide quality prevention services including; HIV counselling and testing, and linkage to care and SMC.
Work in close collaboration with the district teams, develop/review strategies, work plans and standards for the implementation of HIV prevention activities in the districts and supported health facilities.
The incumbent will strengthen the capacity of the districts to provide comprehensive HIV/AIDS services for Key populations and other high HIV risk populations
Provide technical assistance to the district system for provision of comprehensive services to SGBV survivors in the care continuum from routine screening for SGBV HCT, PEP, STI screening to prophylaxis/ treatment and other follow ups.
Offer technical support to the HIV prevention focal persons at the health Sub district level to offer quality HIV prevention services, and monitor performance as per approved work plans.
Ensure timely reporting and submission of all implementation activity reports of the district; including specific reports on (KP, Community linkage etc.) to the District M&E officer.
Work in close collaboration with the DHTs to provide support supervision, coaching and mentorship to the health workers in HIV prevention, in line with current MoH guidelines.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate for the Makerere University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) Prevention Advisor should preferably hold a Masters’ degree in Public Health, Population studies or related field.
Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine, Nursing, Social Work& Administration or related field.
At least three years’ experience in HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment provision both in a donor funded program.
Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to work effectively with district teams
Good planning, monitoring and evaluation of HIV care Programs
Broad knowledge and ability to analyse the HIV Prevention policy framework
Previous exposure and experience of working with MOH, District and Community Health structures in HIV Prevention.
Computer literacy i.e. proficiency in MS office
Ability to work in a rural setting
